The Borough Of Wandsworth Rifle Club
Located in Earlsfield in South West London, The Borough of Wandsworth Rifle Club is one of the oldest clubs belonging to the National Smallbore Rifle Association in the United Kingdom. The club has indoor and outdoor ranges for small-bore rifle target shooting, as well as air pistol and air rifle facilities. History The inception of the Borough of Wandsworth Rifle Club dates back to 1903 when members of the Borough of Wandsworth Council Lt Gen Sir Frederick Lance KCB and Mr F.J. Liddington started the club. Christening it the Earlsfield & District Rifle Club, they and the 70 members of the club were allowed to use the Public Baths as an indoor range during the winter. It was in the following year that the club was renamed to the Borough of Wandsworth Rifle Club and the borough council granted a piece of land near the River Wandle of approximately two acres at a nominal rent for the erection of an indoor and outdoor range. Earlsfield
Earlsfield is an area within the London Borough of Wandsworth, London, England. It is a typical London suburb and comprises mostly residential Victorian terraced houses with a high street of shops, bars, and restaurants between Garratt Lane, Allfarthing Lane, and Burntwood Lane. The population of Earlsfield at the 2001 Census was 12,903, increasing to 15,448 at the 2011 Census. Earlsfield railway station provides access to central London (three stops to London Waterloo (Clapham Junction, Vauxhall, Waterloo) in 12 minutes) and other areas in South London (Victoria - changing at Clapham Junction, Wimbledon one stop). National Smallbore Rifle Association
The National Small-bore Rifle Association, the NSRA, is the national governing body for all Small-bore Rifle and Pistol Target Shooting in the United Kingdom, including Airgun and Match Crossbow Shooting. The NSRA is based at The Lord Roberts Centre, within the grounds of the National Shooting Centre in Surrey. National postal competitions are organised all year round, together with a series of meetings, culminating in the Bisley Rifle Meeting, or National Meeting in August, preceded by the Scottish Rifle Meeting in June/July. Metropolitan Borough Of Wandsworth
The Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth was a Metropolitan borough under the London County Council, from 1900 to 1965. History The borough was formed from five civil parishes: Clapham, Putney, Streatham, Tooting Graveney and Wandsworth. In 1904 these five were combined into a single civil parish called Wandsworth Borough, which was conterminous with the metropolitan borough. Before 1900 these parishes, and Battersea until 1888, had been administered by the Wandsworth District Board of Works. Coat of arms The coat of arms were granted on 6 July 1901. The River Wandle is a right-bank tributary of the River Thames in south London, England.
