The Block (Australian TV Series)
''The Block'' is an Australian reality television series broadcast on the Nine Network. The series follows four or five couples as they compete against each other to renovate and style houses/apartments and sell them at auction for the highest price. The original series first ran for two consecutive seasons in 2003 and 2004, and was originally hosted by Jamie Durie. The Nine Network revived ''The Block'' after a six-year absence, with a third season commenced airing on 22 September 2010, this time hosted by television personality and builder Scott Cam. Shelley Craft joined as co-host from the fourth season. ''The Block'' has a large number of commercial sponsors and prominently features brand sponsorships regularly throughout episodes. 1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. The Block (season 4)
The fourth season of Australian reality television series '' The Block'', titled ''The Block 2011'', aired on the Nine Network. Scott Cam returned as host as did John McGrath & Neale Whitaker as judges and Shelley Craft joined the season as "Challenge Master". The season premiered on Monday, 20 June 2011 at 7:00 pm. Unlike previous series, the fourth season was filmed in Melbourne rather than Sydney, with the four houses to be renovated located in the inner-city suburb of Richmond. The season was ultimately won by Polly Porter and Warwick "Waz" Jones, who were the only couple to sell their property at auction. Jamie Durie returned as host from the first season as did judge John McGrath. It first premiered on 18 April 2004. Following the success of the first season, an expanded second season of 26 episodes, airing twice weekly, premiered on 18 April 2004. Manly is a beach-side suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
