The Black Woman Is God
The Black Woman Is God is a recurring group exhibition of Black women artists curated by Karen Seneferu and Melorra Green, which started in 2013 and in 2016 and 2017 has been located at the San Francisco city-owned nonprofit art space SOMArts. The exhibitions challenge a popular western mindset of God as a white male and instead explores new images showing "The Black Woman is God". History 2013 Exhibition at the African American Art & Culture Complex The first iteration of The Black Woman is God was intended as a solo exhibition for Seneferu, curated by Green, at the African American Art & Culture Complex. Seneferu agreed to participate in the exhibition only if other black female artists were included. The exhibition included 20 visual and performance artists. San Francisco Public Library
The San Francisco Public Library is the public library system of the city and county of San Francisco. The Main Library is located at Civic Center, at 100 Larkin Street. The library system has won several awards, such as ''Library Journal'''s Library of the Year award in 2018. The library is well-funded due to the city's dedicated Library Preservation Fund that was established by a 1994 ballot measure, which was subsequently renewed until 2022 by a ballot measure in 2007. ''Bitch'' was an independent, quarterly alternative magazine published in Portland, Oregon. Its tagline described it as a "feminist response to pop culture", and it was described in 2008 by ''Columbia Journalism Review'' as "a respected journal of cultural discourse". As a feminist publication, it took an intersectional approach. ''Bitch'' was published by the nonprofit feminist media organization ''Bitch Media''. The magazine included analysis of current political events, social, and cultural trends, television shows, movies, books, music, advertising, and artwork. Its print magazine had about 80,000 readers. California Digital Library
The California Digital Library (CDL) was founded by the University of California in 1997. Under the leadership of then UC President Richard C. Atkinson, the CDL's original mission was to forge a better system for scholarly information management and improved support for teaching and research. In collaboration with the ten University of California Libraries and other partners, CDL assembled one of the world's largest digital research libraries. ''Art Practical'' is an online arts magazine based in San Francisco producing arts criticism, essays, quarterly issues, and programming related to contemporary art and visual culture in the Bay Area and beyond. History The magazine was established in 2009 by Patricia Maloney, who served as director and editor-in-chief until 2015. In 2013, the publication acquired and incorporated the events website Happenstand and the arts publication ''Daily Serving'', which maintained its independent site with Maloney as director. Beginning in 2015, the California College of the Arts became the publisher of ''Art Practical'' and ''Daily Serving'' with Maloney transitioning to executive director and with Kara Q. Contemporary history, in English-language historiography, is a subset of modern history that describes the historical period from approximately 1945 to the present.
