The Black Academy (Canada)
The Black Academy is a Canadian academy for the recognition of talent and fostering of Black Canadians in various industries. It is a division of B.L.A.C.K. Canada (Building a Legacy in Acting, Cinema + Knowledge), an organization founded by Canadian actors Shamier Anderson and Stephan James in 2020. The organization has partnered with Insight Productions to launch an annual award ceremony to honour Black Canadian achievement in film, television, music, sports, and culture, tentatively planned to launch in 2022. The awards have already secured a commitment from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast the ceremony for at least the first three years, from 2022 through 2024. Black Canadian
Black Canadians (also known as Caribbean-Canadians or Afro-Canadians) are people of full or partial sub-Saharan African descent who are citizens or permanent residents of Canada. The majority of Black Canadians are of Caribbean origin, though the Black Canadian population also consists of African-American immigrants and their descendants (including Black Nova Scotians) and many native African immigrants. Black Canadians have contributed to many areas of Canadian culture. Shamier Anderson (born May 6, 1991) is a Canadian actor. He is known for playing U.S. Deputy Marshal Xavier Dolls on the television series ''Wynonna Earp (TV series), Wynonna Earp'' and ''Invasion (2021 TV series), Invasion.'' Background Anderson is the older brother of actor Stephan James (actor), Stephan James. He graduated from Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts as an Ontario Scholar then went on to study criminology and trained with weapons prior to breaking into acting. Andre De Grasse
Andre De Grasse (born November 10, 1994) is a Canadian sprinter. A six-time Olympic medallist, De Grasse is the reigning Olympic champion in the 200 m, and also won the silver in the 200 m in 2016. He won a second silver in the 4×100 relay in 2020. He also has three Olympic bronze medals, placing third in the 100 m at both the 2016 and 2020 Games, and also in the 4×100 m relay in 2016. Kayla Grey (born January 2, 1993) is a Canadian television sportscaster, currently working as an anchor for '' SportsCentre'' on TSN. Career A graduate of Toronto's College of Sports Media, Grey began her broadcasting career in Winnipeg as a Digital Broadcast Journalist for Global News. Fabienne Colas Joseph, (born March 18, 1979), is a Haitian-Canadian actress, director and producer. She is head of the Fabienne Colas Foundation, which is dedicated to the promotion of film, art and culture as it organizes many festivals.
