The Big Bluff (1933 American Film)
''The Big Bluff'' is a 1933 American comedy film directed by Reginald Denny and starring Denny, Claudia Dell and Donald Keith. It was produced by George W. Weeks and the independent Tower Productions.Pitts p.433 The film's sets were designed by the art director Paul Palmentola. Plot An actor from a touring theatrical troupe is hired to impersonate an English lord by a small town social climber in order to impress their rival acquaintance who has thrown a party for a British aristocrat. Confusion arises when other members of the theatrical company join in the impersonation. It ultimately emerges that the other aristocrat is a fake, while the actor really is secretly a peer. Reginald Denny (actor)
Reginald Leigh Dugmore (20 November 189116 June 1967), known professionally as Reginald Denny, was an English actor, aviator, and UAV pioneer. Acting career Born Reginald Leigh Dugmore on 20 November 1891 in Richmond, Surrey, England (part of Greater London since 1965), he came from a theatrical family; his father was actor and opera singer W.H. Denny. In 1899, he began his stage career in ''A Royal Family'' and starred in several London productions from age seven to twelve. He attended St. Francis Xavier College in Mayfield, Sussex, but, at 16, he ran away from school to train as a pugilist with Sir Harry Preston at the National Sporting Club. Jed Prouty (born Clarence Gordon Prouty; April 6, 1879 – May 10, 1956) was an American film actor. Biography Born as Clarence Gordon Prouty in Boston, Massachusetts, Prouty was a vaudeville performer before becoming a film actor. Mostly appearing in comedies, he occasionally performed a serious character role, for instance a small part as an oily publicist in '' A Star is Born'' (1937). After a significant career in silent films, a large part of Prouty's later career was the Jones Family film series. They were 17 low-budget 20th Century Fox family comedies between 1936 and 1940, along with Spring Byington as Mrs. Jones, for such directors as Malcolm St. Clair and Frank R. Strayer. Prouty appeared in all but the final entry. American comedy films are comedy films produced in the United States. The genre is one of the oldest in American cinema; some of the first silent movies were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. Benjamin Joseph Hall (March 18, 1899 – May 20, 1985) was an American actor who started performing as a boy and worked for three and a half decades, mainly in small parts. Biography Born in Brooklyn, New York as the eldest child of American stevedore George E. Hall and his English wife Constance L.
