TRU (group)
TRU (an abbreviation of The Real Untouchables) was an American hip hop group from New Orleans, active from 1989 to 2005. The group originally consisted of rappers on the New Orleans-founded record label, No Limit Records. The members are brothers Master P, C-Murder, and Silkk the Shocker. The group released six albums, incorporating the typical No Limit formula of G-funk rhythms married to hardcore gangsta lyrics. Southern hip hop, also known as Southern rap, South Coast hip hop, or dirty south, is a blanket term for a regional genre of American hip hop music that emerged in the Southern United States, especially in Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Memphis, and Miami—five cities which constitute the "Southern Network" in rap music. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. No Limit Records is an American record company founded by Master P. The label's albums were distributed by Priority Records, Universal and Koch Records. The label included artists such as Snoop Dogg, Mercedes, Silkk the Shocker, Mystikal, Mia X, Mac, C-Murder, Magic, Romeo Miller, Fiend, Kane & Abel, and Soulja Slim. Anthony Boswell, head of Bout It Bout It Management, served as the vice president of operations as well as head of management for the label. Priority Records is an American distribution company and record label known for artists including N.W.A, Ice-T, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Big L, Silkk the Shocker and Westside Connection. ''The Truth'' is the sixth and final studio album released by New Orleans rap group, TRU. It was released on February 22, 2005, on The New No Limit and was produced by Master P, Drumma Boy, Kaos, Myke Diesel and Bass Heavy. Compared to the previous two TRU albums, The Truth only found minor success selling 45,000 copies, peaking at No. 54 on the ''Billboard'' 200, No. 15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 2 on the Independent Albums. A Chopped and screwed version of the album mixed by Michael 5000 Watts was released on April 26, 2005. By December 2005 the album sold about 200,000 copies. ''Tru 2 da Game'' is the fourth studio album released by New Orleans hip-hop group, TRU. It was released February 18, 1997 on No Limit Records and was produced by Beats By the Pound . The album found a large amount of success, peaking at #8 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums selling 200,000 copies in its first week.
