''The Best of Everything'' is a 2019 greatest hits album with recordings made by Tom Petty, with his backing band The Heartbreakers, as a solo artist, and with Mudcrutch. It was released on March 1. Release and promotion The compilation was originally due to be released in 2018, immediately following ''An American Treasure'' and the alternative take of the title track, released as the first single, for digital streaming. Thomas Earl Petty (October 20, 1950October 2, 2017) was an American musician who was the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, formed in 1976. He previously led the band Mudcrutch, was a member of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys, and had success as a solo artist. Petty had many hit records. Hit singles with the Heartbreakers include " American Girl" 1976, "Don't Do Me Like That" (1979), "Refugee" (1980), " The Waiting" (1981), "Don't Come Around Here No More" (1985) and " Learning to Fly" (1991). It was released in November 1979 as the first single from the album '' Damn the Torpedoes'' (1979). It reached number 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, becoming the band's only Top 10 hit.
