Deicide (band)
Deicide is an American death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 by drummer/composer Steve Asheim and guitarist brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman as "Carnage", then hiring bassist/vocalist/lyricist Glen Benton and becoming "Amon". They would later change the band name to Deicide in 1989. The band rose to mainstream success in 1992 with their second album ''Legion (album), Legion'', and is credited as the second-best-selling death metal band of the Soundscan Era, after Cannibal Corpse. Since their debut album in 1990, Deicide has released twelve studio albums, one live album, two compilation albums and two live DVDs. Founded in the Netherlands in 1980, it is now a division of Warner Music Group and is based in New York City. History The label was launched in 1980 in the Netherlands. ''In Torment in Hell'' is the sixth studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on September 25, 2001, on Roadrunner Records. Reception The album received strong criticism from the metal underground for what many critics view as rushed production and lackluster songwriting. The label pressured the band for a quick follow-up to '' Insineratehymn'', but Deicide failed to meet the deadline of its original release date of July 31. The band rarely plays any songs from this album live. Scars Of The Crucifix
''Scars of the Crucifix'' is the seventh studio album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released on February 23, 2004, Deicide's first album on the band's new label Earache Records. The track "Scars of the Crucifix" spawned Deicide's first ever music video, filmed in Nottingham. This is the final Deicide album to feature the band's full original lineup, as the Hoffman brothers would both depart shortly after this album—ending their 17-year tenure with the group. The closing track, "The Pentecostal", is followed by a hidden untitled bonus track with drummer/composer Steve Asheim playing a classical piano solo. On July 11, 2006, ''Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles'' reported that Deicide received a Silver Disc from the independent music trade body Impala for their sales in Europe. The album contains all of their demo tracks, plus the songs "Deicide" and "Mephistopheles". Background While containing mostly Satanic or blasphemous lyrical themes, "Lunatic of God's Creation" and "Carnage in the Temple of the Damned" concern Charles Manson and Jim Jones respectively, and "Dead by Dawn" deals with the plot of the 1981 horror film, '' The Evil Dead''. ''Legion'' is the second album by American death metal band Deicide. It was released by Roadrunner Records on June 9, 1992. Background ''Legion'' is one of Deicide's most musically ambitious releases, incorporating more technical riffing and song structures. The band considers this album to be its most difficult, and claims it is too chaotic. When the Hoffman brothers quit the band, Eric Hoffman stated that one of the main reasons was Glen Benton refusing to play longer sets and being unable to perform the technical bass guitar riffing required for ''Legions material. Though the album is a favourite of fans, "Dead But Dreaming" is the only song from it to remain in the band's live set (though as recently as 2010 the band has begun playing "Trifixion" and "Holy Deception" as well).
