The Beggar Prince
''The Beggar Prince'' is a lost 1920 film directed by William Worthington and produced by Sessue Hayakawa's Haworth Pictures Corporation. Plot An island is ruled by a prince (Sessue Hayakawa) who mistakenly believes he can control the moon and the sea. The prince tries to be with a beautiful girl (Batrice La Plante) who doesn't like him. A fisherman (also played by Sessue Hayakawa) sees the prince harassing the girl and knocks him out and swaps clothes with him and takes over the role as leader of the country. After some time the fisherman feels guilty and returns the throne to the cast out prince. William Worthington (actor)
William Worthington (April 8, 1872 in Troy, New York – April 9, 1941 in Beverly Hills, California) was an American silent film actor and director. Career Worthington became interested in the performing arts when he began his career as an opera singer and stage actor. He entered films with a lead role in 1913, and one of his more notable films was Damon and Pythias in 1914. From 1917 to 1925, William concentrated on directing films and was the head of a film production firm called Multicolor, which was bought by Cinecolor in 1932. He was active in films up until his death in 1941. Sessue Hayakawa
, known professionally as , was a Japanese actor and a matinée idol. He was a popular star in Hollywood during the silent film era of the 1910s and early 1920s. Hayakawa was the first actor of Asian descent to achieve stardom as a leading man in the United States and Europe. His "broodingly handsome" good looks and typecasting as a sexually dominant villain made him a heartthrob among American women during a time of racial discrimination, and he became one of the first male sex symbols of Hollywood. After withdrawing from the Japanese naval academy and attempting suicide at 18, Hayakawa attended the University of Chicago, where he studied political economics in accordance with his wealthy parents' wish that he become a banker. Upon graduating, he traveled to Los Angeles in order to board a scheduled ship back to Japan, but decided to try out acting in Little Tokyo.
