''The Beatles in Italy'' is a Beatles compilation album released in Italy in 1965 (Parlophon PMCQ 31506). Despite its title, ''The Beatles in Italy'' is not a live album, but, rather, a compilation of previously released studio recordings. The album was issued in 1965 to capitalise on the band's Italian leg of their 1965 European tour (they performend in Milan, Rome and Genoa between 24 and 27 June 1965), and the release of the film, '' Help!''. The album consists entirely of single and EP tracks that had not been previously collected into an LP. All original copies of the LP were in mono. ''The Beatles in Italy'' was reasonably popular for Parlophone, first appearing on the red label and later on the black label. EMI's Israeli affiliate was impressed enough with the compilation that they released it there, albeit without the gatefold cover that it sported in Italy. Lennon–McCartney was the songwriting partnership between English musicians John Lennon (1940–1980) and Paul McCartney (born 1942) of the Beatles. It is the best-known and most successful musical collaboration ever by records sold, with the Beatles selling over 600 million records worldwide as of 2004. Between 5 October 1962 and 8 May 1970, the partnership published approximately 180 jointly credited songs, of which the vast majority were recorded by the Beatles, forming the bulk of their catalogue. Larry Williams
Larry Williams (born Lawrence Eugene Williams, a.k.a. Lawrence Edward Williams; May 10, 1935 – January 7, 1980) was an American rhythm and blues and rock and roll singer, songwriter, producer, and pianist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Williams is best known for writing and recording some rock and roll classics from 1957 to 1959 for Specialty Records, including " Bony Moronie", "Short Fat Fannie", "Slow Down", "Dizzy, Miss Lizzy" (1958), " Bad Boy" and "She Said Yeah" (1959). Slow Down (Larry Williams Song)
"Slow Down" is a rock and roll song written and performed by Larry Williams. Recorded in 1957, AllMusic writer Stewart Mason describes it as "raucous enough to be punk rock nearly a full two decades before the concept was even in existence." Specialty Records released it as a single in 1958, but only the second-side "Dizzy, Miss Lizzy" reached the record charts. Both songs were later covered by the Beatles. "Matchbox" is a song written and recorded by Carl Perkins and released in 1957. Blind Lemon Jefferson wrote and recorded a song entitled "Match Box Blues" in 1927, which is musically different but which contains some lyric phrases in common. "Matchbox" was recorded as a rockabilly song by Carl Perkins in December 1956 and by fellow Sun Records performer, Jerry Lee Lewiswho played piano on the original trackin 1958. Sam Phillips and Sun Records released the Carl Perkins version as the B-side to " Your True Love".
