The Beatbox
''The Beatbox'' was an Irish music programme, broadcast as a simulcast across both television (RTÉ Two) and radio (RTÉ 2fm) between the hours of 11.30 and 1.30 on Sunday mornings / afternoons. It ran from the late 1980s until 1995, and had a number of different presenters through the years, including Barry Lang, Simon Young, Peter Collins and Ian Dempsey. Simulcast
Simulcast (a portmanteau of simultaneous broadcast) is the broadcasting of programmes/programs or events across more than one resolution, bitrate or medium, or more than one service on the same medium, at exactly the same time (that is, simultaneously). For example, Absolute Radio is simulcast on both AM and on satellite radio. Likewise, the BBC's Prom concerts were formerly simulcast on both BBC Radio 3 and BBC Television. Another application is the transmission of the original-language soundtrack of movies or TV series over local or Internet radio, with the television broadcast having been dubbed into a local language. Simon Young (presenter)
Thomas Anthony Meade (1959 – 31 October 2021), known professionally as Simon Young, was an Irish radio and television presenter. He started in pirate radio and DJ'ing in the 1970's. He presented various TV shows such as '' The Beatbox'' and had radio shows on 2FM. He was also known for making contributions to the cult children's television strand, '' Dempsey's Den'', hosted by his radio colleague at that time, Ian Dempsey. Young resigned from RTÉ in 2002 and held a very private life until 2011. He died ten years later, at the age of 62. Career Young presented ''Simon's Choice'' or ''Simon's Saturday Choice'' on Saturday mornings from 10:00 - 13:00 in the late 1980s. The catchphrase "Hey Simon, What toime is ittt?" originates from this time. Peter Collins ( ga, Peadar Ó Coileáin) is an Irish sportscaster for national broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). He is seen on RTÉ's coverage of live Soccer, Gaelic games, Formula One, track & field athletics and Moto GP. He is the current presenter of Soccer Republic and SSE Airtricity League 'live'. Collins is a native of Westport, County Mayo. Peter Collins played football for Westport United FC and won a Connaught Cup medal with the club back in 1987. He is a father. Ian Dempsey
Ian Dempsey (born 16 January 1961) is an Irish presenter of television and breakfast radio. He is the long-running presenter of the breakfast show on Today FM, self-titled '' The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show'', which runs from 6-9 am each weekday. He has won several major awards for his programmes and was the Republic of Ireland's tenth most-listened-to broadcaster in 2007. On 9 June 2010, he co-hosted the opening ceremony of the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games Irish heats at Thomond Park with Des Cahill. David Fanning (born 27 February 1956) is an Irish television and radio broadcaster, rock journalist, DJ, film critic and author. Fanning currently hosts weekend midday magazine/chat show '' The Dave Fanning Show'' on the Irish national radio station RTÉ 2fm and a number of RTÉ Radio 1 programmes.
