''The Bears' Famous Invasion of Sicily'', also known as ''The Bears and the Invasion of Sicily'' in the United States (; ), is a 2019 Italian-French traditionally animated adventure film directed by Lorenzo Mattotti. The screenplay by Mattotti, Jean-Luc Fromental and Thomas Bidegain is based on the 1945 Italian children's book ''The Bears' Famous Invasion of Sicily'' by Dino Buzzati. The film was selected to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Pathé distributed the film in France on 9 October 2019 and by BIM Distribuzione in Italy on 7 November 2019. It received critical acclaim. Lorenzo Mattotti (born 24 January 1954) is an Italian comics artist as well as an illustrator. His illustrations have been published in magazines such as ''Cosmopolitan (magazine), Cosmopolitan'', ''Vogue (magazine), Vogue'', ''The New Yorker'', ''Le Monde'' and ''Vanity Fair (magazine), Vanity Fair''. In comics, Mattotti won an Eisner Award in 2003 for his ''Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde'' graphic novel. Biography Mattotti was born in Brescia (Lombardy). He studied architecture when he was young, but did not finish the course. Instead he became a comics artist. Jean-Claude Carrière (; 17 September 1931 – 8 February 2021) was a French novelist, screenwriter and actor. ''Il Piccolo'' is the main daily newspaper of Trieste, Italy. Its name derives from the paper's original ''small'' format. History and profile ''Il Piccolo'' was founded by Teodoro Mayer in 1881.
