''The Awakening of Motti Wolkenbruch'' (german: Wolkenbruchs wunderliche Reise in die Arme einer Schickse, ) is a 2018 Swiss comedy-drama film directed by Michael Steiner. It was selected as the Swiss entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. It is based on Swiss author Thomas Meyer's debut novel, also called ''Wolkenbruch's Wondrous Journey into the Arms of a Shiksa''. Plot A Jewish Orthodox student faces familial opposition after falling madly in love with a shiksa. Motti is a good Jewish boy dominated by his mother. He is in college studying economics for his family. Motti's mother constantly arranges dates for Motti, hoping he will marry soon. In class, he meets Laura. Michael Steiner (born 28 November 1949, in Munich) is a German diplomat who served as head of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). He was the German Ambassador to India from March 2012 - June 2015. Early life and education Michael Steiner was born on 28 November 1949 in Bavaria, Germany. Eli Gorenstein ( he, אלי גורנשטיין; born August 31, 1952) is an Israeli actor, voice actor, director, singer and cellist. Biography Gorenstein was born in Tel Aviv and was raised in Ramat Gan during his childhood. His maternal grandfather was philosopher Felix Weltsch. He went to New York City to study theatre and music and he holds a master's degree at Tel Aviv University.
