''The Art of Drowning'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band AFI. It was released on September 19, 2000, through Nitro Records. Production In June 2000, the band finished recording ''The Art of Drowning''. Composition The album's second track, "The Lost Souls", was originally titled "The Art of Drowning". "The Despair Factor" features AFI's first notable use of electronic drums. On the song, vocalist Davey Havok states: "My whole life is a dark room... one big dark room," a line spoken by Winona Ryder in the film ''Beetlejuice'' (1988). The track title inspired the name of the band's official fan club, The Despair Faction. Artwork The band name and album title appear in orange in a hand-designed horror punk-esque typeface. AFI (band)
AFI (abbreviation for A Fire Inside) is an American rock band from Ukiah, California, formed in 1991. Since 1998, it consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson, bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget. Havok and Carson are the sole remaining original members. Originally a hardcore punk band, they have since delved into many genres, starting with horror punk and following through post-hardcore and emo into alternative rock and gothic rock. AFI has released eleven studio albums, ten EPs, one live album and one DVD. The Warped Tour was a traveling rock tour that toured the United States plus three or four stops in Canada annually each summer from 1995 until 2019. It was the largest traveling music festival in the United States and the longest-running touring music festival to date in North America. Following the first Warped Tour, the skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans became the tour’s main sponsor, when it then became known as the Vans Warped Tour. Ann Beretta was a punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1996 by Rob Huddleston, Leer Baker, Chris Rupp and Russ Jones (Baker and Rupp later left), the band plays straightforward punk with small doses of rockabilly and country mixed into their sound. The band spent several years on tour playing with bands including Hot Water Music, ALL, the Bouncing Souls, Less Than Jake and city-mates Avail. They have released albums on Fueled by Ramen and Lookout! Records. However, after their 2001 release ''New Union Old Glory'', they left Lookout! to release their next album on with Canadian label Union Label Group. In late 2004, Ann Beretta disbanded until 2012, when they toured Europe and the UK in support of ''Wild, Young, and Free'' - an LP released exclusively in Europe by Gunnar Records and made up of demos and outtakes. Catch 22 is an American ska punk band from East Brunswick Township, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1996 by guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Tomas Kalnoky, who left the band in 1998 and later formed Streetlight Manifesto. Founding members still in the band are vocalist/saxophonist Ryan Eldred, trumpeter Kevin Gunther and drummer Chris Greer. While largely inactive since 2012, the band performed at a spate of shows in 2015. Biography Catch 22 was formed by guitarist/vocalist Tomas Kalnoky and drummer Chris Greer who recruited trumpeter Kevin Gunther, who was working in a local record store. Marc Preston Webb (born August 31, 1974) is an American music video director and filmmaker. Rancid is an American punk rock band formed in Berkeley, California in 1991. Founded by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, former members of the band Operation Ivy (band), Operation Ivy, Rancid is often credited as being among the wave of bands that revived mainstream interest in punk rock in the United States during the mid-1990s.
