''The Arizona Ranger'' is a 1948 American Western film directed by John Rawlins and starring Tim Holt and his father Jack.Richard Jewell & Vernon Harbin, ''The RKO Story.'' New Rochelle, New York: Arlington House, 1982. p228 RKO head of production Dore Schary, impressed by the Holts being in '' The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'', gave the film a bigger budget than Holt Westerns normally received. It was also known as ''The Arizona Ranger''. Plot Bob Morgan is mustered out of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders to join the Arizona Rangers. However Bob's father, Rawhide Morgan, wants him to help run Rawhide's cattle ranch. Instead, Bob tells his friend, Chito Rafferty, to stay and assist with the farm. Rawhide resents Bob leaving the ranch. Bob arrests Nimino Welch, a fugitive from justice, and member of Quirt Butler's gang. During Nimino's transfer to prison, the stagecoach is attacked by Quirt. John Rawlins (director)
John Rawlins (June 9, 1902 – May 20, 1997) was an American film editor and director. He directed 44 films between 1932 and 1958. He was born in Long Beach, California and died in Arcadia, California. According to one obituary, he was "a prime exponent of that style, being a master of swift exposition and fast action. His no-nonsense approach also made him a fine serial director, and when given the chance of a top-budget adventure film he gave his studio one of its biggest hits in Arabian Nights." James F. Nolan (November 29, 1915 – July 29, 1985) was an American film, stage and television actor. Nolan was born in San Francisco, California. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. RCA chief David Sarnoff engineered the merger to create a market for the company's sound-on-film technology, RCA Photophone, and in early 1929 production began under the RKO name (an abbreviation of Radio-Keith-Orpheum). Chester William Hannan (May 24, 1901 – August 14, 1980) was an American actor and rodeo performer. He was known for starring as Yucca Bill Thompson in the 1937 film ''Stars Over Arizona''. Hannah was born in Iron River, Michigan. In 1924 he traveled to England with the Tex Austin Rodeo. Hannan moved to California in the 1930s. William Edward Phipps (February 4, 1922 – June 1, 2018) was an American actor and producer, sometimes credited simply as William Phipps, known for his roles in films and on television. Early years Hometown Phipps grew up in St. Francisville, Illinois. His parents divorced when he was six years old. By the time he was in high school, he was using his stepfather's last name of Couch.
