The Arc Apartments
The Arc is a residential development located beside Abercorn Basin in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast, Northern Ireland. It contains 474 residential properties, a hotel, and a number of retail units, split across three buildings. The name "Arc" is an abbreviation for Abercorn Residential Complex, and also refers to the curved design of the buildings. History Initial plans for the Arc were unveiled in 2003, with the residential complex to be located in the Abercorn Basin area of the Titanic Quarter in Belfast. The promotional material was criticised as reaching "new heights of cultural cringe, at least for Belfast, wrapped around the language of urban renaissance". The United Kingdom cladding crisis, also known as the cladding scandal, is an ongoing social crisis that followed the Grenfell Tower fire of 14 June 2017 and the Bolton Cube fire of 15 November 2019. Grenfell Tower Fire
On 14 June 2017, a high-rise fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in North Kensington, West London, at 00:54 BST and burned for 60 hours. 72 people died, two later in hospital, with more than 70 injured and 223 escaping. The River Lagan (; Ulster Scots: ''Lagan Wattèr'') is a major river in Northern Ireland which runs 53.5 miles (86 km) from the Slieve Croob mountain in County Down to Belfast where it enters Belfast Lough, an inlet of the Irish Sea. The Lagan forms much of the border between County Antrim and County Down in the east of Ulster.
