''The Approach'' is the debut album of the Illinois-based industrial band, I:Scintilla. Production on the album began immediately after the formation of the band and it was produced by guitarist Jim Cookas. It is currently out of print, but secondhand copies can still be found online. Industrial Rock
Industrial rock is a fusion genre that fuses industrial music and rock music. It initially originated in the 1970s, and drew influence from early experimental and industrial acts such as Cromagnon, Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten and Chrome. Industrial rock became more prominent in the 1980s with the success of artists such as Killing Joke, Swans, and partially Skinny Puppy, and later spawned the offshoot genre known as industrial metal. The genre was made more accessible to mainstream audiences in the 1990s with the aid of acts such as Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, both of which have released platinum-selling records. Positron! Records
Positron Records is an independent record label based in Chicago, Illinois. The label was founded in 1998 by Chris Randall, frontman of the industrial band Sister Machine Gun. Positron describes itself as an "anti-label" because they release only a handful of albums and give as much support to each release as they can. The label also features a Creative Commons license for some of its albums, allowing individuals to upload those songs to peer-to-peer websites as well as sample parts of those songs for private or commercial usage. Havestar
''Havestar'' is the first EP by the Illinois-based industrial band '' I:Scintilla''. It was released in 2006 on Alfa Matrix. The album contains three reworked songs from their first release, ''The Approach''. These songs are also featured on their next full-length album, ''Optics Optics is the branch of physics that studies the behaviour and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. I:Scintilla is a post-industrial music band from Chicago, Illinois, currently consisting of guitarist Jim Cookas, vocalist Brittany Bindrim, drummer Vincent Grech and bassist Dean Dunakin. To date, they have released four studio albums and four EPs. History Early years and ''The Approach'' (2002–2004) I:Scintilla was conceptualized in Champaign, IL by Jim Cookas in December 2002. In January 2003, Chad Mines joined the group as bassist followed shortly by Jason Allen on guitar and programming in March. Upon formation, they immediately began writing their debut album, ''The Approach'' while still searching for a vocalist. Many singers were auditioned before finding Brittany Bindrim, who they found to be a perfect fit. The album was finished and self-released on July 29, 2004.
