The Appointed Hour
''The Appointed Hour'' is a collaborative album by singer and guitarist Peter Hammill and ambient musician Roger Eno. It was released in January 2001 by Fie! Records. The music on the album was based on an agreement between Roger Eno and Peter Hammill that they both would improvise for one hour on a previously agreed upon time (1 April 1999, between 13:00 and 14:00 GMT). The only pre-arrangement was that both musicians would start in D minor, but other than that neither of them knew what the other was doing. The album was created by adding the two recordings together (and deleting only some of it - according to Hammill there are no overdubs). Roger Eno
Roger Eugene Eno (born in Woodbridge, Suffolk, Woodbridge, England, in 1959) is an English ambient music composer. He is the brother of Brian Eno. Early life and education Roger Eno began euphonium lessons when he was 12 years old, and entered Colchester Institute to study music when he was 16. Upon graduating, and after a period of busking in London (where he briefly shared a house with artists Mark Wallinger and Andy Dog), Eno returned to Colchester to run a music therapy course at a local hospital for people with learning difficulties. Career In 1983, he had his first recording experience when he recorded the album ''Apollo'' with his brother Brian Eno and Canadian producer and musician Daniel Lanois at Lanois' Grant Avenue Studios in Hamilton, Ontario. Peter Hammill
Peter Joseph Andrew Hammill (born 5 November 1948) is an English musician and recording artist. He was a founder member of the progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator. Best known as a singer/songwriter, he also plays guitar and piano and produces his own recordings and occasionally those of other artists. In 2012, he was recognised with the Visionary award at the first Progressive Music Awards. ''None of the Above'' is the 26th studio album by Peter Hammill, released on his Fie! label in 2000. Production and instrumentation Hammill recorded ''None of the Above'' in his home studio, Terra Incognita, between January 1999 and February 2000, playing, producing and arranging nearly all instruments and singing nearly all voices. Some contributions were made by Stuart Gordon (violin, viola) on three tracks and Manny Elias (drums, percussion) on one track. Peter Hammill's daughters Holly and Beatrice Hammill sing backing soprano voices on two tracks. The instrumentation is dominated by guitars (more as a "colour-wash", as Hammill wrote in his newsletter), keyboards and some strings. The long recording time is due to Hammill's parallel work on a remastered 4-CD compilation of Van der Graaf Generator called ''The Box''.
