The Anthology (James Reyne Album)
''The Anthology'' is a double CD greatest hits album of by Australian singer songwriter James Reyne. The album includes tracks from the last three decades. Reyne said "I've been working as a singer, musician and songwriter for a while now, and feel that it may only be that I've started to grasp how it all works relatively recently. I know I'm a better craftsman now than I was, so welcomed the idea of this Anthology/retrospective of my solo stuff. The first CD includes all the solo "hits" that I've had, but most importantly to me, provides a threshold to the later and more recent songs; tunes that many would never have heard. James Reyne
James Michael Nugent Reyne OAM (born 19 May 1957) is an Australian rock musician and singer-songwriter both in solo work and, until 1986, with the band Australian Crawl. Biography Early years Reyne was born in Lagos, Nigeria. His father, Rodney Michael Reyne, was an English-born former Royal Marine, who served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of the state of Victoria, Sir Dallas Brooks, and subsequently worked for British Petroleum. His paternal grandfather, Cecil Nugent Reyne, was an English rear admiral. His mother, Judith Graham, née Leask, was a teacher. His younger brother, David Reyne, was also born in Nigeria. The family moved to Victoria in late 1959, where a younger sister Elisabeth was born. Reyne lived in Mount Eliza, Victoria, was educated at The Peninsula School and studied drama at the Victorian College of Arts. Hard Reyne
''Hard Reyne'' is the second solo album by Australian singer/songwriter James Reyne. It was released in May 1989 and peaked at number 7 on the ARIA Charts. The album produced four singles, "House of Cards", "One More River", "Trouble in Paradise" and "Harvest Moon". Review Tomas Mureika of AllMusic said; "Further collaboration with Simon Hussey finds Reyne treading water to some degree, trying to replicate the success of his debut, while lacking the fury and energy that made that album so utterly compelling. "One More River" and "Wake Up Deadman" share a more traditionally bluesy feel, while "House Of Cards" tries to echo the intensity of earlier classics. A mellower, less surprising effort. ''Hard Reyne'' is not a bad album by any means, there is just nothing here to render it great." Company Of Strangers (group)
Company of Strangers were a short-lived rock, pop music studio project formed by Simon Hussey in late 1991. The album featured performances by Daryl Braithwaite (ex- Sherbet) on vocals, Simon Hussey (ex-Cats Under Pressure, Australian Crawl) on keyboards, drums, engineering and production, Jef Scott on guitar and vocals, and James Reyne (ex-Australian Crawl) on vocals and guitar. Their debut self-titled album appeared in December 1992 via Sony Music Australia with Hussey producing. It peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified gold in 1993 for shipment of 35000 copies. They released four singles, "Motor City (I Get Lost)" (July 1992), " Sweet Love" (November 1992), " Daddy's Gonna Make You a Star" (January 1993) and their cover version of the Beatles' "Baby, You're a Rich Man" (June 1993). "Motor City (I Get Lost)" is the first single from Australian supergroup Company of Strangers. The single was released in July 1992 and peaked at number 26 in Australia in September 1992. It features the vocals of Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne. The Dingoes
The Dingoes are an Australian country rock band. They were initially active from 1973 to 1979, and reformed in 2009. Initially based in Melbourne, the band relocated to the United States from 1976. The most stable line-up comprised John Bois on bass guitar, John Lee on drums, Broderick Smith on vocals and harmonica, Chris Stockley on guitar, and Kerryn Tolhurst on guitar. Mal Logan (who provided keyboards on the first LP) on keyboards joined after Stockley was hospitalised when shot in the stomach by Melbourne drug-dealer, Dennis Allen, who was attempting to gate crash a party. The Dingoes' debut single, " Way Out West", was released in November 1973, and peaked in the top 40 of the Australian Kent Music Report singles chart. James Blundell (singer)
James Blundell (born 8 December 1964) is an Australian country music singer. Born in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Blundell first rose to prominence after being named "best new talent" at the 1987 Country Music Awards of Australia. Blundell has since released several albums in both Australia and the United States, with his most successful album '' This Road'' (released in 1992) selling more than 145,000 copies in Australia. Blundell was an unsuccessful candidate for the Senate in Queensland at the 2013 federal election, running for Katter's Australian Party. At the 2019 Country Music Awards of Australia, Blundell was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Early life Blundell was born in Queensland town of Stanthorpe, and was brought up on a sheep and cattle station near the town. Tony Joe White (July 23, 1943 – October 24, 2018), nicknamed the Swamp Fox, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie" and for "Rainy Night in Georgia", which he wrote but which was first made popular by Brook Benton in 1970. He also wrote "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent for the Blues", both hits for Tina Turner in 1989; those two songs came by way of Turner's producer at the time, Mark Knopfler, who was a friend of White. ''Electric Digger Dandy'' is the third solo studio album by Australian singer/songwriter James Reyne released in June 1991. The album was released in the United States as ''Any Day Above Ground''. The album peaked at number 3 on the ARIA Charts and remains Reyne's highest-charting album. The album saw Reyne's return to a more electric sound.
