''The Angel of Crooked Street'' is a 1922 American silent crime drama film directed by David Smith and starring Alice Calhoun, Ralph McCullough and William McCall.Connelly p.13 Synopsis Jennie Marsh, a young woman working as a maid is unjustly accused of theft when the man she brings home a man from dance who proceeds to rob the house of her employer. She is sent to a reformatory and on release is embittered against the world and decides to take revenge on her former employer Mrs. Sandford. She plans to frame her son Schuyler for a robbery he didn't commit. David Smith (director)
David Smith (28 October 1872 – 25 April 1930) was an English film director and cinematographer of the silent era. He directed more than 70 films between 1915 and 1927. He was born in Faversham, Kent, and died in Santa Barbara, California. He was the older brother of Albert E. Smith, one of the co-founders of the Vitagraph Studios. Vitagraph Studios, also known as the Vitagraph Company of America, was a United States motion picture studio. It was founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith in 1897 in Brooklyn, New York, as the American Vitagraph Company. By 1907, it was the most prolific American film production company, producing many famous silent films. It was bought by Warner Bros. in 1925. History In 1896, English émigré Blackton was moonlighting as a reporter/artist for the New York ''Evening World'' when he was sent to interview Thomas Edison about his new film projector. The inventor talked the entrepreneurial reporter into buying a set of films and a projector. Colonel George Francis Gillman Stanley (July 6, 1907September 13, 2002) was a Canadian historian, author, soldier, teacher, public servant, and designer of the Canadian flag. Early life and education George F.G. Stanley was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1907 and received a BA from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He went to Keble College, University of Oxford, in 1929 as the Rhodes Scholar from Alberta, and held a Beit Fellowship in Imperial Studies and a Royal Society of Canada Scholarship. He earned a BA, MA, MLitt and DPhil. Always a keen athlete, he played for the Oxford University Ice Hockey Club, which won the Spengler Cup in 1931. At Oxford, he wrote his book, ''The Birth of Western Canada: A History of The Riel Rebellions'', and began his lifelong work on Louis Riel. Mary Marsden Young (June 21, 1879 – June 23, 1971) was an American stage and film actress whose career spanned the first sixty years of the 20th century. She started her career in the theatre and ended playing elderly ladies in film and lastly on television. Her first Broadway credit was in 1899. On stage she scored a memorable hit in 1913 playing opposite John Barrymore in the stage version of ''Believe Me, Xantippe''. 1924 saw her on Broadway in ''Dancing Mothers'' opposite John Halliday and Helen Hayes who played the daughter later made famous by Clara Bow in a silent film. She was approaching 60 in 1937 when she made her first Hollywood movie. She made many television appearances in the 1950s and 1960s. Her last television appearance was in a 1968 episode of ''Gomer Pyle''.
