The Angel is a Grade II listed public house at 697 Uxbridge Road, Hayes, Middlesex, UB4 8HX. It was built in 1926, and designed by Nowell Parr for Fuller's Brewery. It was Grade II listed in 2015 by Historic England. It closed towards the end of 2018 and was sold soon after to the Hayes Muslim Centre, who purchased it with the intention of turning it into a place of prayer and education but failed to get their ideas past the planning stage. It has since been put up for sale again - in April 2024 - and is currently on the AG&G Commercial Property and Rightmove websites. Public House
A pub (short for public house) is a kind of drinking establishment which is licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises. Hayes, Hillingdon
Hayes is a town in west London, historically situated within the county of Middlesex, and now part of the London Borough of Hillingdon. The town's population, including its localities Hayes End, Harlington and Yeading, was recorded as 83,564 in the 2011 census. It is situated west of Charing Cross, or east of Slough. The Grand Union Canal flows through the heart of Hayes, accompanied by the Great Western Main Line and significant industry, a town centre, residential areas and country parks. Nowell Parr
Thomas Henry Nowell Parr FRIBA (1864 – 23 September 1933) was a British architect, best known for designing pubs in west London. Many of these were built while Parr was "house architect" for Fuller's Brewery. Parr designed various buildings in Brentford while he was surveyor and then architect to the Council from 1894 to 1907. Early life Parr was born in Handsworth, Staffordshire (now Birmingham), the eldest child of Thomas Parr and Frances "Fanny" Nowell. He was baptised on 20 July 1864. In 1890, his career began as an architectural assistant for Walsall Corporation architects' department, for which he worked until 1894. Career Brentford Council In 1894, the Brentford Local Board employed Nowell Parr as "Surveyor to the Council", and from 1897 as an architect. From 1896–1905, Parr was architect for five large buildings in Brentford, of which three survive: Brentford Baths, Brentford Fire Station (1897), and Brentford Library. Fuller's Brewery
Fuller's Brewery in Chiswick in the west of London was a family-run business from its foundation in 1845 until 2019. In that year, the brewing division of Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC was sold to the Japanese international beverage giant Asahi. John Fuller's Griffin Brewery dates from 1816; in 1845, his son, John Bird Fuller, was joined by Henry Smith and John Turner. Fuller, Smith & Turner owns and operates more than 380 pubs, inns and hotels across the south of England. History Beer has been brewed on Fuller's historic Griffin Brewery site in Old Chiswick since the seventeenth century.
