The Amp
The AMP was a youth center and music venue in Minot, North Dakota, United States. Established in October 2003 by Billy Luetzen, the AMP provided a place for local youth to hang out, and on most weekends staged a concert. Generally concerts had a lot of punk rock, but indie and acoustic acts played there. The AMP also organized film and theatre events. The predecessor of AMP was the Liberty Social Tavern. History In September 2003, following the closure of the Liberty, a group of people met at the Minot Public Library to discuss the future of live performance in the city. This artists, musicians, and performers group led by Billy Luetzen found a location for a new venue with an owner willing to allow preemptible use of the building for virtually no cost; an abandoned fur and leather factory in northeast Minot. Sycamore Smith is the stage name of Marc Smith, a musician from Marquette, Michigan. Smith, formerly of ''The Muldoons'', has toured the United States with his comic brand of folk music, complete with derby hat, guitar, and gold-plated resonator kazoo. Minot ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Ward County, North Dakota, United States, in the state's north-central region. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Minot State University (MSU or MiSU) is a public university in Minot, North Dakota. Founded in 1913 as a normal school, Minot State University is the third-largest university in North Dakota, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Burnthe8track is a punk rock, punk rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba That is currently on hiatus. Band members have included singer Derek Kun, guitarist Jason Kun, drummer Sam Osland and bassists Mike Goreski, Ethan Osland. Buck Garringer and Kevin Feeleus. History Burnthe8track was formed in 2001 by Derek Kun, Jason Kun, Sam Osland and Kevin Feeleus. Kevin Feeleus left the band after the independent release of the Division E.P in 2002. Buck Garringer of the Harlots joined the band briefly and was eventually replaced by Mike Goreski. That year the band performed at Winnipeg's Grand Beach Music Fest. The Robot Ate Me is an experimental indie rock band formed by Ryland Bouchard in 2002 which has been through many distinct phases incorporating aspects of folk, jazz, psychedelia and avant-garde rock. Their critically acclaimed albums alternated between accessible pop and obscure musical art projects. After releasing ''Good World'' in 2006 Babysue described the band as "one of the most unpredictable and obtuse underground bands around." Southerly is a United States musical act, a solo project of Krist Kreuger. The Madison, Wisconsin native started the project in 2001, releasing an EP, but put it on hiatus to focus on building his own independent booking agency, ''The Crow Agency''. After picking the project back up, he took it on tour across the United States, Canada, and Paraguay. The White Foliage
Secret Cities is an American independent rock band from North Dakota, United States. Its founding members, Charles Gokey and Marie J. Parker, met at a band camp in July 2001, while in high school. Although the two lived 500 km apart, in Fargo, North Dakota and Williston, North Dakota, respectively, the two started making music by exchanging tapes in the mail and composing using four-track recorders. They continued in this fashion until February 2004, when the pair changed their name to The Foliage and put out their first release on Fall Records, a split with In Ink Please entitled "How to Make Better Love." In July 2005 the band released a mini-LP, ''Zurich'' on Fall Records under the moniker The White Foliage. The group also added a third member, Alex Abnos, during a tour of the Midwest in that year. Defiance Ohio
Defiance is a city in and the county seat of Defiance County, Ohio, United States, about southwest of Toledo and northeast of Fort Wayne, Indiana, in Ohio's northwestern corner. The population was 16,494 at the 2010 census. History The city contains the site of Fort Defiance, built by General "Mad" Anthony Wayne in August 1794, during the Northwest Indian War at the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers. General Wayne surveyed the land and declared to General Scott, "I defy the English, Indians, and all the devils of hell to take it." Using the fort as a base of operations, Wayne ordered his troops to destroy Native American crops and villages within a radius of around the fort.
