''The Amorous Corporal'' (french: La Bigorne, caporal de France) is a 1958 French adventure-comedy film co-written and directed by Robert Darène. Loosely based on the novel ''La Bigorne, caporal de France'' by Pierre Nord, it is set in eighteenth-century Madagascar. It was the first cinematography credit for Pierre Lhomme. It aired on cable TV in the US in 1973 as part of a package of non-English language movies called "Movies for Swingers". Jean Marcel Lefebvre (3 October 1919Some sources indicate he was born in 1922. – 9 July 2004) was a French film actor. His erratic studies were interrupted by World War II. Taken prisoner and then requisitioned as a laborer, he escaped to join his family evacuated near Châteauroux and Neuvy-Saint-Sépulcre. He was a tram driver time in Limoges and seller of underwear. At the end of the war he returned to his home, in his house in Valenciennes, where he worked briefly for his father, and then entered the Conservatoire in Paris in 1948. Jean Carmet (25 April 1920 – 20 April 1994) was a French actor. Life and career Jean Carmet began working on stage and then in film in the early 1940s becoming a very popular comedic actor in his native country. He is best known internationally for his role as a French colonist in the 1976 film, '' La Victoire en Chantant'' (Black and White in Color). Because of his good-natured manner, he was as popular with members of the film crew as he was with the audiences. During his long career, he appeared in more than 200 films, and although he played dramatic parts, he usually acted in a supporting role as a comedic character. He was nominated for the César Award for Best Actor for his leading role in the 1986 film, '' Miss Mona''. Twice he won the César Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and was nominated on two other occasions. Robert Hirsch (26 July 1925 – 16 November 2017) was a French actor. He was a ''sociétaire'' of the Comédie-Française since 1952. In 1990, he won César Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in ''Hiver 54, l'abbé Pierre''. His other film appearances included ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'', and in 2006/07 he appeared in ''Le gardien'' (a French adaptation of Harold Pinter's ''The Caretaker'') at Théâtre de l'Oeuvre then Théâtre de Paris. In April 2011, he asked Florian Zeller to write a part specially for him. The result was Le Père which had its first performance in Le Théâtre Hébertot, Paris, in September 2012. Pierre Nord, real name André Léon Brouillard (15 April 1900 – 10 December 1985), was a French writer, spy and resistance member. Early life Brouillard was born in Le Cateau-Cambrésis, Nord. He participated in the First World War as a resistance fighter and in 1916 was arrested by the Germans at Saint-Quentin, Aisne, condemned to death and later pardoned. He was educated at Saint-Cyr (1920-1922), Ecole de Guerre (Superior War School) (1932-1934), and Ecole libre des sciences politiques (Free School of Political Science). As an armoured troops' officer, he took part in the campaign against Rif rebels in Morocco and there earned the distinction of knight of the Légion d'honneur. In 1939, Brouillard was appointed chief of intelligence of the 9th and 10th Armies.
