''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' is a video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989 by SETA and was based upon the 1876 book ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' by Mark Twain. Gameplay ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' is a platformer similar to '' The Goonies 1 or 2'', wherein one plays as Tom Sawyer Thomas Sawyer () is the titular character of the Mark Twain novel ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' (1876). He appears in three other novels by Twain: '' Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' (1884), '' Tom Sawyer Abroad'' (1894), and '' Tom Sawyer, .... The game is not to be confused with '' Square's Tom Sawyer''. Inexplicably, the level order is changed in the English version (perhaps so as not to confuse players by starting with the rafting stage). is a role-playing video game produced by Square that was released exclusively in Japan in 1989 for the Family Computer (the Japanese version of the Nintendo Entertainment System). The game is directly based on Mark Twain's renowned 1876 novel, ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'', and was developed in the role-playing video game niche that made Square famous with its acclaimed ''Final Fantasy'' series of video games. Gameplay Players control Tom Sawyer and his friends as they join the party, such as Jim and Huck, and they each have RPG game statistics such as health, power, and speed. Thomas Sawyer () is the titular character of the Mark Twain novel ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' (1876). He appears in three other novels by Twain: ''Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' (1884), ''Tom Sawyer Abroad'' (1894), and ''Tom Sawyer, Detective'' (1896). Sawyer also appears in at least three unfinished Twain works, ''Huck and Tom Among the Indians'', ''Schoolhouse Hill'', and ''Tom Sawyer's Conspiracy''. While all three uncompleted works were posthumously published, only ''Tom Sawyer's Conspiracy'' has a complete plot, as Twain abandoned the other two works after finishing only a few chapters. SETA Corporation
was a Japanese computer gaming company, founded on October 1, 1985 and dissolved on February 9, 2009. SETA was headquartered in Kōtō, Tokyo, with a branch in Las Vegas, Nevada. SETA developed and published games for consoles such as the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It created development tools for Nintendo's consoles. It made games in North America but mainly Japan, focusing on golf and puzzles. It developed the Aleck 64 arcade system, based on the Nintendo 64 console. SETA also assisted in the production of the SSV arcade system, alongside Sammy and Visco. In 1999, Aruze became the parent company.
