The 13th Floor (album)
''The 13th Floor'' is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian gothic metal band ''Sirenia'' and their first with the Spanish vocalist Ailyn. It was released on 23 January 2009, through Nuclear Blast. The album features guest appearances by Jan Kenneth Barkved (who had also made some guest appearances on their album '' At Sixes and Sevens''), and the French violin player, Stephanie Valentin, who adds to the sound along with the choir that has been a part of their sound since the beginning. The album was released in three formats: CD, CD-Digi and box set. The box set edition was restricted to 500 copies worldwide. The download-only single, ''"The Path to Decay"'', was released on 26 December 2008. Sirenia (band)
Sirenia is a Norwegian gothic metal band from Stavanger, founded in 2001 by Morten Veland. The band uses melodic instrumentals, synthesizers, and distorted guitars with female vocals, male death vocals, clean male vocals, a choir, and violins. The lyrics are concerned with human existence, emotion, and mental states. History 2001–2003: ''At Sixes and Sevens'' In January 2001, Veland, a founding member of Tristania left the band, within a few weeks Veland had a new band along with three other members. Morten Veland
Morten Veland (born 4 December 1977) is a Norwegian musician. He is one of the founding members of the gothic metal band Tristania and the founding member of Sirenia and Mortemia. Background At the age of 14, Veland began saving to buy his first electric guitar. He would lock himself up and practice everyday and night. Veland was inspired by Guns N' Roses's Appetite For Destruction and Alice Cooper's Trash to make a career out of music and afterwards by The Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, and The Mission amongst others. Career Early days In 1992, Veland entered the music scene when he was just 15 years old. He and bandmate Kenneth Olsson, who would later form Tristania, formed Uzi Suicide. Tue Madsen (born 1969) is a Danish music producer and sound engineer, who is well known in metal genre for his work with bands like Meshuggah, Dark Tranquillity, Suicide Silence, Hatesphere, The Haunted, Mnemic, Ektomorf, Cataract, Exmortem, and Born from Pain. Choir
A choir ( ; also known as a chorale or chorus) is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music, in turn, is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform. Choirs may perform music from the classical music repertoire, which spans from the medieval era to the present, or popular music repertoire. Most choirs are led by a conductor, who leads the performances with arm, hand, and facial gestures. Emmanuelle Zoldan
Emmanuelle Zoldan (born 18 June 1977) is a French opera singer, best known for her work as a session musician in heavy metal bands as Sirenia, Trail of Tears and Turisas, among others. She is currently the vocalist of Sirenia. Career Zoldan is an operatic mezzo-soprano singer. She has combined her musical activities in the most diverse genres, singing in several operas in France for many years and worked simultaneously with some heavy metal bands and other personal projects. Two of her most notable appearances were in Trail of Tears's '' Existentia'' (2007) and Turisas's ''Battle Metal'' (2004), where she was the main female vocalist. Singing is the act of creating musical sounds with the voice. A person who sings is called a singer, artist or vocalist (in jazz and/or popular music). Symphonic Metal
Symphonic metal is a cross-generic style designation for the symphonic subsets of heavy metal music subgenres. It is used to denote any metal band that makes use of symphonic or orchestral elements. The style features the heavy drums and guitars of metal with different elements of orchestral classical music, such as symphonic instruments, choirs and sometimes a full orchestra, or just keyboard orchestration. Symphonic metal bands can feature classically trained vocalists, in which case they can be attributed nicknames such as opera metal or operatic metal.
