''Thayi Karulu'' (Kannada: ತಾಯಿ ಕರುಳು) is a 1962 Indian Kannada film, directed and produced by G. V. Iyer. The film stars Kalyan Kumar, Udaykumar and M. V. Rajamma in the lead roles. The film has musical score by G. K. Venkatesh. The movie is based on the Bengali novel '' Ulka'' by Nihar Ranjan Gupta which was also later adapted in Tamil in 1969 as ''Deiva Magan'' starring Sivaji Ganesan. G. V. Nihar Ranjan Gupta ( bn, নীহাররঞ্জন গুপ্ত, pen name: ''Banbhatta'' (বানভট্ট); 6 June 1911 – 20 February 1986) was an Indian dermatologist and a popular Bengali novelist. He is the creator of the fictional detective character Kiriti Roy. Some of his writings were made into films of Bengal and Bollywood. Early life Gupta came from a Kabiraj family of Itna village under Lohagara police station, in the district of Jessore, presently in the Narail district of Bangladesh. Kalyan Kumar
Kalyan Kumar (7 June 1928 – 1 August 1999) was an Indian actor, and an occasional film director and producer who worked primarily in Kannada cinema, Kannada and Tamil cinema. Making his acting debut in the mythological drama ''Natashekara'' (1954), Kalyan Kumar went on to star in over 200 films in a span of over five decades. He was among the much sought after actors in the 1950s through 1970s for lead roles. Kalyan Kumar has the credit of being the first ever Kannada actor to star in a colour film in ''Amarashilpi Jakanachari'' (1963). Alongside Kumar, the 1960s and 1970s in Kannada cinema was dominated by two other actors, Dr. Rajkumar, Rajkumar and Udaya Kumar (actor), Udayakumar. Bommasandra Srinivasaiah Suryanarayana Murthy (16 March 1933 – 26 December 1985), known by his screen name Udaykumar, was an Indian actor and producer in Kannada cinema. He, along with Kalyan Kumar and Rajkumar, were called the ''Kumarathrayaru'' (meaning the three Kumars) of Kannada cinema He has authored many dramas and books. ''Deiva Magan'' (; ) is a 1969 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by A. C. Tirulokchander. An adaptation of the Bengali novel '' Ulka'' by Nihar Ranjan Gupta, it stars Sivaji Ganesan in three roles and Jayalalithaa, with Sundarrajan, M. N. Nambiar, Nagesh, V. Villupuram Chinnaiya Manrayar Ganesamoorthy, better known by his stage name Sivaji Ganesan, (1 October 1928 – 21 July 2001) was an Indian actor and producer. He was active in Tamil cinema during the latter half of the 20th century.
