Tagarapuvalasa is a neighbourhood on the banks of River Gosthani is a part of Bheemunipatnam Municipality (BMC) in Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the Kolkata–Chennai National Highway 16. National Highway 43 diverts from Maharajupeta village north of Tagarapuvalasa. History Traces of habitation and early trade in and around Tagarapuvalasa may be dated back to 3rd century BC or more as many Early Buddhist sites such as Pavurallakonda, Gudiwada Dibba, Cherukupalli Gutta and Pellikonda, are explored, documented and excavated near to this town along the River Gosthani. This area once flourished as Madhyama Kalinga region. Geography Tagarapuvalasa and Chittivalasa are twin towns and located at 17°55′52″N 83°25′44″E. River Gosthani
The Gosthani rises in the Ananthagiri Hills of the Eastern Ghats and flows through the Borra Caves which lie near its source. It is the largest river flowing through Visakhapatnam city. It flows for 120 km before joining the Bay of Bengal through an estuary near Bheemunipatnam. The river basin drains the two coastal districts of Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. The basin exhibits a subdendritic and dendritic pattern of drainage. The Gosthani's is a minor river basin with a total drainage area of less than 2000 km2. Much of the basin is covered by khondalite group of gneissic rocks. About 3% of the total area of the Visakhapatnam district is under the Gosthani basin. The river is rainfed, receiving an average rainfall of 110 cm most of which comes from the south-west monsoon. Hanumanthuwaka is an area of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The Visakhapatnam BRTS connects Hanumanthuwaka to Simhachalam. Hanumanthuwaka was an initially a small suburb outside Visakhapatnam. Gudiwada Dibba, Vizianagaram
Gudiwada Dibba is a small hillock at Gudiwada village in Bhogapuram mandal, Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh. It located on the banks of River Gosthani. Exploration of the Site Explorations on this hillock (Gudiwada Dibba) in October 2012 yielded an ancient Buddhist heritage site possibly of 2nd Century BC. The site was documented by the State Archaeological department of Andhra Pradesh. Description of the Site The Hillock is formed of 2 flat terraces. The upper terrace towards the east consists of Buddhist Stupa remnants and a small rock cut cistern. The lower terrace towards the west consists of Buddhist Vihara remnants and two Hindu temples (probably constructed 100 years ago) dedicated to Goddess Durga. Rock cut steps are present towards River Gosthani at the west end of the hillock. This site has some resemblance to Pavurallakonda and Thotlakonda Buddhist site in the near Vicinity. Pavurallakonda
Pavurallakonda or Pavurallabodu is the local name of a hill, popularly known as Narasimhaswamy Konda, near Bheemunipatnam about 25 km towards north of Visakhapatnam, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located at a height of about 150 meters above mean sea level. Pavurallakonda consists of a ruined hill-top Buddhist monastic complex probably witnessed human habitation from 3rd century BCE to 2nd century CE. It is one of the largest Buddhist monasteries of North Coastal Andhra Region. Hinayana Buddhism may have flourished at this hill-top site. Initial Excavation of this site yielded many relics.
