Tezi Altarpiece
The ''Tezi Altarpiece'' (Italian: ''Pala Tezi'') is a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino, housed in the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria of Perugia, Italy. The work was once associated to a single predella panel portraying the ''Last Supper'' (), now at the Gemäldegalerie of Berlin. The painting was executed for the Tezi Chapel in the church of Sant'Agostino in Perugia. After that monastic institute was suppressed under the Napoleonic domination of Italy, it was acquired by the Umbrian Gallery. Style The panel shows the Madonna and Child on a cloud in the sky, flanked by St. Nicholas of Tolentino and Bernardino of Siena. Below, over a wood landscape, are the traditional depictions of St. Jerome with the lion, and St. Sebastian struck by arrows. Pietro Perugino
Pietro Perugino (, ; – 1523), born Pietro Vannucci, was an Italian Renaissance Painting, painter of the Umbrian school, who developed some of the qualities that found classic expression in the High Renaissance. Raphael was his most famous pupil. Early years He was born Pietro Vannucci in Città della Pieve, Umbria, the son of Cristoforo Maria Vannucci. His nickname characterizes him as from Perugia, the chief city of Umbria. Scholars continue to dispute the socioeconomic status of the Vannucci family. While certain academics maintain that Vannucci worked his way out of poverty, others argue that his family was among the wealthiest in the town. His exact date of birth is not known, but based on his age at death that was mentioned by Giorgio Vasari, Vasari and Giovanni Santi, it is believed that he was born between 1446 and 1452. The Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria (English: National Gallery of Umbria) the Italian national paintings collection of Umbria, housed in the Palazzo dei Priori, Perugia, in central Italy. Located on the upper floors of the Palazzo dei Priori, the exhibition spaces occupy two floors and the collection comprises the greatest representation of the Umbrian School of painting, ranging from the 13th to the 19th century, strongest in the fourteenth through sixteenth centuries. Madonna della Consolazione (English: ''Our Lady of Consolation'') is an oil on panel painting by Perugino, datable ca. around 1496–1498. The work, completed in April 1498, was carried out in the Sala delle Udienze of the Collegio del Cambio. Since c. 1820 it is preserved in the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia. History The painting of the Mother of God under her title Our Lady of Consolation was accomplished for the ''Confraternita dei disciplinati di San Francesco in Perugia'' (lit: the Brotherhood of Disciples of Saint Francis in Perugia). The figure of the Madonna is stylistically similar to works for which the artist's wife Chiara Fancelli modelled.
