Texas Student Media
Texas Student Media (TSM) is an auxiliary enterprise of the University of Texas at Austin (UT) and the largest student media operation in the United States. It is composed of faculty, student, and professional news industry representatives. History UT's first publication was the ''Cactus Yearbook'', established in 1894; followed in 1900 by the weekly ''Texan'' (which evolved into ''The Daily Texan'' in 1913). In 1902, the Student Association was formed, partly to oversee UT student publications. In 1921, as more publications emerged, Texas Student Publications, Inc. (TSP) was formed. Student Television Station
A student television station is a television station run by university, high or middle school students that primarily airs school/university news and in many cases, student-produced soap operas, entertainment shows, and other programming. At the high school level and below, working for a school's television station is often an extracurricular activity but often included in a journalism class taught at the school, in which students learn about the journalistic profession and produce school news reports. Student television stations at this level almost always broadcast through the school's closed circuit television system. Working for a middle or high school student television station can often be an alternative to students interested in journalism, who choose not to work at a school newspaper. Coleman Lewis
Smoke was a band from the Cabbagetown neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia that dissolved in 1999 with the death of writer/singer Benjamin. Benjamin was the subject of Peter Sillen and Jem Cohen's documentary ''Benjamin Smoke'' (2000). History The group formed during the demise of the Opal Foxx Quartet, starting with Benjamin on vocals, Bill Taft on cornet and banjo, Brian Halloran on cello, and Todd Butler on guitar. Coleman Lewis and Tim Campion later joined on guitar and drums, respectively, followed by Will Fratesi on drums. Their last show was New Year's Eve, 1998. Benjamin died January 29, 1999. Though many of the band's CDs are apparently out of print, some copies may be currently available at online record stores. Bill Taft and Will Fratesi went on to form Hubcap City, who are still active in the Atlanta area. Former guitarist Coleman Lewis died from a heroin overdose in May 2014. Bevo (mascot)
Bevo is the live mascot of the athletic programs at the University of Texas at Austin. Bevo is a Texas Longhorn steer with burnt orange and white coloring from which the university derived its color scheme. The profile of the Longhorn's head and horns gives rise to the school's hand symbol and saying: "Hook 'em Horns". The most recent Bevo, Bevo XV, was introduced to Texas football fans on September 4, 2016. His predecessor, Bevo XIV, died of cancer on October 16, 2015. Bevo XV is owned by Betty and John Baker's Sunrise Ranch in Liberty Hill, Texas; Sunrise Ranch also owned Bevo XV's predecessors Bevo XIII and Bevo XIV. Cockrell School Of Engineering
The Cockrell School of Engineering is one of the eighteen colleges within the University of Texas at Austin. It has more than 8,000 students enrolled in eleven undergraduate and thirteen graduate programs. The college is ranked 10th in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities, 11th nationally for undergraduate programs and 10th nationally for graduate programs by '' U.S. News & World Report''.
