Texas State Highway 5
State Highway 5 (SH 5) runs along the old route of U.S. Highway 75 at Howe into the city of Allen. SH 5 parallels US 75 along its length and runs alongside the former Houston and Texas Central rail line. SH 5 was created in 1959 when the new route of US 75 was established to the west. Historically, SH 5 extended into and through Plano and Richardson. Route history The current version of SH 5 was established on April 29, 1959 initially as a replacement for the former routing of U.S. Highway 75 from Richardson north to McKinney when US 75 was rebuilt further to the west. The route was extended north to Howe on October 27, 1967 to replace another portion of US 75 that had been upgraded on a new route just to the west. Allen is a city in Collin County in the U.S. state of Texas, and a northern suburb of Dallas. According to the 2020 U.S. census its population was 104,627, up from 84,246 in 2010. Allen is located approximately twenty miles (32.2 km) north of downtown Dallas and is a part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. History The Allen area was previously home to the Caddo, Comanche, and other indigenous peoples. The first immigrants from the United States and Europe arrived in the early 1840s. The town was established by the Houston and Texas Central Railway and named in 1872 for Ebenezer Allen, a state politician and railroad promoter. The railroad allowed sale of crops across the country before they rotted, causing a shift from the previous cattle-based agriculture. Clarksville is a city and county seat of Red River County, Texas, in the United States in the northernmost part of the Piney Woods region of East Texas. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 2,857. Geography Clarksville is located at (33.611086, –95.052448). Located northwest of Texarkana near the center of the county, it is at the junctions of U.S. Highway 82, State Highway 37, and Farm roads 114, 412, 909, 910, and 1159. Texas State Highway 180
State Highway 180 (SH 180) is a highway that runs through Tarrant County and Dallas County in Texas (USA) between Interstate 35W in Fort Worth, running east to Loop 12 in Dallas. From Loop 12 in Dallas to Interstate 35W in Fort Worth, State Highway 180 follows the old routing of U.S. Route 80. Signage still shows the part from Loop 12 to Beckley Boulevard as SH-180 although it had been removed from the state system in 2014. Route description The entire route runs no more than a few miles south parallel of the former Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike (now Interstate 30), but does not intersect with it at any point. The highway begins as Lancaster Avenue from Interstate 35W just southeast of downtown Fort Worth. Entering Arlington, it becomes Division Street, and passes just south of AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field. Avery, TX
Avery is a town in Red River County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 482 at the 2010 census. From the 1920s through the early 1960s Avery was one of the largest tomato producing and shipping cities in northeastern Texas. History The town was established in the 1870s. Avery is located on U.S. Highway 82 sixteen miles southeast of Clarksville in eastern Red River County. When the Texas and Pacific railroad was being constructed through the county in the 1870s, the managers of the railroad planned a station at the site and named it Douglass. Settlement in the community was slow because the surrounding area was so sparsely populated. When a correspondent of the Clarksville Standard newspaper visited Douglass in early 1881 he found a collection of families living in tents. State Highway 86 (Texas)
State Highway 86 (SH 86) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Texico to Estelline. This route was designated on August 21, 1923 as the renumbered SH 5A. On September 17, 1923, the section from Estelline to Turkey was cancelled, as SH 18 extended northeast from Turkey to Memphis. By 1929, it was shortened to Bovina, as it was constructed on that route, instead. It has travelled its present course since then, except for the addition of the northern portion of SH 18 between Turkey and Estelline on December 22, 1936. Farwell is a city in and the county seat of Parmer County, Texas, United States. Its population was 1,363 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the Texas-New Mexico border with the city of Texico, New Mexico, across the border. History Farwell began as a cow camp for the XIT Ranch, a huge ranch that was established in 1880. Farwell was named for brothers Charles B. and John V. Farwell of Lake Forest, Illinois, who built the Texas State Capitol building in exchange for 3,050,000 acres of ranchland. Estelline is a town located in Hall County, Texas, United States. The population in 2010 was 145. The population was estimated at 141 in 2013.
