Texas State Highway 42
State Highway 42 (SH 42) is a state highway located in the northeastern portion of the Texas in Gregg and Rusk Counties. This route was designated on December 12, 1962, over former SH 259 because of the creation of US 259 (which replaced cancelled SH 26) through Kilgore, which it intersected. Previous routes SH 42 was originally proposed on April 22, 1919, as a route from Greenville to Marshall. On August 21, 1923, the northwest terminus extended north to Sherman, replacing a section of SH 11. The section of SH 42 from Alba to Marshall was cancelled; SH 42 was instead rerouted to end in Mineola. On January 21, 1924, the section from Alba to Mineola was cancelled. SH 42 was instead rerouted to end in Quitman. On October 20, 1924, another section was created from Gilmer to Marshall, creating a gap. On December 20, 1926, the gap was closed. Henderson, Texas
Henderson is a city and the county seat of Rusk County, Texas, in Northeast Texas. Its population was 13,271 at the 2020 census. Henderson is named for James Pinckney Henderson, the first governor of Texas. The city has functioned as a major crossroads in Northeast Texas over the last two centuries. Alba, Texas
Alba ( ) is a town located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and Farm To Market Road 17 on the western edge of Wood County, Texas south of Lake Fork and approximately ten miles west of Quitman. The population was 473 in the 2020 U.S. Census. History A gunsmith named Joseph Simpkins was likely the first to settle the area, arriving here with his family from Missouri around 1843. The area was previously alternately known as Albia and Simpkins' Prairie. Theories on how the community got its name differ; one claims it was because the town had been intended for white settlers only while another claims it was named for the son of a railroad official. Texas State Highway 135
State Highway 135 (SH 135) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Jacksonville to near Gladewater. History SH 135 was designated on June 22, 1928, from Troup to the Rusk County Line. On March 19, 1930, it was extended to Gladewater, replacing SH 15A. On October 27, 1953, an extension to Jacksonville along FM 347 was signed but not designated. On February 20, 1963, SH 135 was rerouted concurrent with SH 42, with the old route being transferred to FM 918 and Spur 378. The extension to Jacksonville was official designated on August 29, 1990, completing the current route and cancelling this section of FM 347. Texas State Highway 155 (SH 155) is a highway in the U.S. state of Texas. It runs from Palestine to Linden as a mostly divided highway by way of Tyler. From Palestine to Linden, SH 155 is part of the Blue Star Memorial Highway. Route description SH 155 begins at US 79 / SH 19 in Palestine northeastward via Frankston to SH 64 at Tyler. Just north of Frankston, a series of three causeways, one measuring a mile in length, crosses Lake Palestine and passes through the resort towns of Coffee City and Dogwood City. Whitewright is a town in Fannin and Grayson Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 1,604 at the 2010 census, down from 1,740 at the 2000 census. The Grayson County portion of Whitewright is part of the Sherman– Denison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gilmer, Texas
Gilmer is a city in, and the county seat of, Upshur County, Texas. It is best known for being the home of the East Texas Yamboree and the birthplace of popular music singers Don Henley of the Eagles band and Johnny Mathis, as well as blues musician Freddie King. Mineola, Texas
Mineola is a city in the U.S. state of Texas in Wood County, Texas, Wood County. It lies 26 miles north of Tyler. Its population was 4,823 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The town was incorporated as the railroads arrived in 1873. A railroad official, Ira H. Evans, combined the names of his daughter, Ola, and her friend, Minnie Patten, to create the city name Mineola. Texas State Highway 11
State Highway 11 (SH 11) is a highway that runs from US 59 (Future I-369) in Linden to SH 56 in Sherman in northeast Texas. Route description SH 11 begins at an intersection with State Highway 56 on the easternedge of Sherman, just north of the Sherman Regional Airport. The route then travels to the southeast through Northeast Texas. In 2009, it was rerouted around the city of Commerce, concurrent with State Highway 24 and State Loop 178, with the old routing through Commerce transferred to a business route.
