State Highway 173 (SH 173) is a state highway that runs for from Jourdanton to Kerrville in south Texas, traversing through the Texas Hill Country. History The highway was originally designated on August 4, 1932 from Hondo southeast to Devine. On October 26, 1932, it extended southeast to Pleasanton. On January 11, 1933, it was rerouted to end in Jourdanton. On October 16, 1933, this section from Devine to Jourdanton was cancelled. On May 14, 1935, it extended back to Jourdanton. On July 15, 1935, SH 173 was cancelled. On September 3, 1935, a road from Devine to Jourdanton was being investigated for preparation for restoration of this section of SH 173. On April 20, 1936, the entire route was restored. On September 26, 1939, the designated route was extended south from Jourdanton through Freer, absorbing most of SH 241, with an expected terminus at Hebbronville. on January 29, 1942, the section from Freer to Hebbronville had been cancelled. State Highway 16 (SH 16) is a south–north state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Zapata on the boundary with Mexico to U.S. Highway 281 south of Wichita Falls. It is the longest state highway in Texas at almost , but is only the ninth-longest of any highway classification in the state. Route description SH 16 begins at an intersection at US 83 in Zapata. The route continues through south Texas ranchlands, then to the north through San Antonio's far south side. Center Point, Kerr County, Texas
Center Point is an unincorporated community in Kerr County, Texas, USA. History In the mid-1850s, as Kerr County was establishing a new county seat, a small community to the south was being established as a major trade area between Comfort and Kerrsville (later changed to Kerrville) and Bandera and Fredericksburg. On November 25, 1859, the first post office was established and called Zanzenberg after the ancestral home of the town founder Charles Ganahl. Originally opened in the home of Ganahl, the post office stayed there until 1872 when it was moved to the south side of the Guadalupe River, where a sizable community was being built. When the post office was reopened it was called Center Point due to its location on the trade routes. Medina, Bandera County, Texas
Medina is an unincorporated community in Bandera County, Texas, United States. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Medina is famous for its apples. The community's population was estimated to be 515 in 2000. History Several families had settled in the community and a sawmill was built in Medina around 1865. A post office was established at Medina in 1880 and developed a gin, a corn mill, a hotel, a private bank, three general stores, and two churches serving 150 residents by the end of the next decade. Many residents were farmers who raised livestock. The population of Medina jumped to 400 by 1914, which then plunged to 250 when the Great Depression forced people to search for new jobs in the early 1930s. It did manage to recover from the Great Depression, with the population growing to 475 by the late 1940s with several businesses and four churches. Hill Country State Natural Area (HCSNA) preserves of rugged, relatively pristine Hill Country terrain in Bandera County, Texas. It was opened to the public in 1984. Since HCSNA is designated a "Natural Area" rather than a "State Park", the first priority of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is the maintenance and preservation of the property's natural state.
