The highway begins at the New Mexico state line southwest of Bledsoe, Texas, Bledsoe, and passes through Bledsoe where it turns east intersecting Texas State Highway 214 , SH 214 before terminating at Texas State Highway 114 , SH 114. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Stowell is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Chambers County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,743 at the 2020 census. Geography Stowell is located on the eastern border of Chambers County at (29.787468, -94.379386). It is bordered by Winnie to the north and Jefferson County to the east. Texas State Highway 73
State Highway 73 (SH 73) is a Texas state highway that runs from Winnie through Port Arthur to near Orange. In September 2008, Hurricane Ike forced the closure of SH 73. Among other road debris left by the storm were two 200-ton barges. The storm surge pushed the barges inland before they came to rest on the highway. History Previous routes The original SH 73 was designated on August 21, 1923, from Oldenburg to Houston, absorbing the eastern half of SH 3A. On October 26, 1932, it was rerouted southwest from Katy to Alleyton, with the portion from Oldenburg to Industry being another section ( FM 109 would connect the two sections later). The highway begins along the Gulf Coast near the northeast end of the Bolivar Peninsula at SH 87 and extends to the northeast ending at US 69 and US 96. In between, the highway has major intersections with SH 65 and SH 73. Jefferson County is a county in the Coastal Plain or Gulf Prairie region of Southeast Texas. The Neches River forms its northeast boundary. As of the 2020 census, the population was 256,526.
