Texas State Bobcats Men's Basketball
The Texas State Bobcats men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents Texas State University. The school's team currently competes in the Sun Belt Conference. They are currently led by Terrence Johnson, who took over in September 2020 following the resignation of Danny Kaspar. The Bobcats last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 1997. History The Bobcats' first season of college basketball was in 1920. The Bobcats were one of the charter members of the Lone Star Conference, which started play in 1934. Starting in 1950, the team won nine conference titles, winning the 1960 NAIA title in the process along with playing in the NAIA Final Four four times before leaving in 1983 to join the Gulf Star Conference, playing from 1984 until 1987 until the conference disbanded. They soon joined the Southland Conference from 1987 until 2012, when they left for the Western Athletic Conference. A year later, they left the WAC and joined the Sun Belt Conference. The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) is a collegiate athletic conference that has been affiliated with the NCAA's Division I since 1976. Originally a non-football conference, the Sun Belt began sponsoring football in 2001. Its football teams participate in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). George Vest (coach)
George Waverly Vest Sr. (December 17, 1907 – November 15, 1997) was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Southwest Texas State Teachers College—now known as Texas State University–from 1946 to 1950, compiling a record of 30–17–3. Vest was also the head basketball coach at Southwest Texas State from 1939 to 1942, tallying a mark of 36–29. Vest was born on December 17, 1907, in Martindale, Texas. He attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College, where he played football, basketball, and baseball and ran track before graduating in 1929 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He later earned a master's degree in physical education from the University of Texas at Austin. Vest began his coaching career in Donna, Texas, mentoring the junior high school football team. The 1996–97 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team represented the University of Minnesota during the 1996–97 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team, coached by Clem Haskins, played their home games in Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 31–4, 16–2 in Big Ten play to win the Big Ten championship. They received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest region. 1994 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1994 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 17, 1994, and ended with the championship game on April 4 in Charlotte, North Carolina, played at Charlotte Coliseum. A total of 63 games were played. Celester Collier
Celester "CC" Collier (born c. 1952) is a retired American basketball coach. Collier played basketball at Paris Junior College from 1979–1981, and Southwest Texas State University from 1981 to 1983. He coached at SWT for two years after playing. He was inducted into the Paris Junior College Hall of Fame and the Southwest Texas State Hall of Honor in 2001. Collier spent the last 31 years of a 43-year coaching career as the boys basketball head coach at Bowie High School in Austin, Texas.
