Texas Longhorns Swimming And Diving
The Texas Longhorns swimming and diving program represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's swimming and diving competition. The Longhorns currently compete in the Big 12 Conference. The first swim team at the University of Texas was created and developed under Tex Robertson. Robertson was the head coach of the team between 1936 and 1943 and between 1946 and 1950. During that period he led the Longhorns to 13 Southwest Conference championships. In 1979, Eddie Reese became the head coach of the men's swimming team. Under Reese, the Texas men's team has won 15 NCAA championships, the most among all programs, and 41 consecutive conference championships. The 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships were held on March 23–26 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. List Of Big 12 Conference Champions
The Big 12 Conference sponsors championships in 23 sports, 10 men's and 13 women's. The first conference championship awarded was the 1996 softball postseason tournament championship, which was won by Oklahoma. From 2011 through 2016, the football champion was decided by regular-season play. Previously divisional titles were awarded based on regular-season conference results, with the teams with the best conference records from the North and South playing in the Big 12 Championship Game for the Big 12 title. The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women’s athletics and to administer national championships. During its existence, the AIAW and its predecessor, the Division for Girls' and Women's Sports (DGWS), recognized via these championships the teams and individuals who excelled at the highest level of women's collegiate competition. After the 1981–82 academic year, the AIAW discontinued sponsorship of national championships and later was legally dissolved.
