Texas Hotel Records
Texas Hotel Records was an independent record label based in Santa Monica, California, which released records by singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt, Henry Rollins and the Rollins Band from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. The label, which started as a record store and later expanded into a record label, was founded by Michael Meister and Susan Farrell. Texas Hotel was voted ''Hot Record Label of the year'' by ''Rolling Stone'' in 1989. At the time, it was planning to release a solo album by Michael Stipe, and the band Poi Dog Pondering, which was signed to the label, had attracted attention. However, the solo album was not released, and Poi Dog Pondering moved to Columbia Records, without major success. Texas Hotel Records closed in 1996. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Life Time (Rollins Band Album)
''Life Time'' is the first full-length studio album by Rollins Band, fronted by ex- Black Flag singer, Henry Rollins. The 1987 album was produced by Ian MacKaye. It was reissued in 1999, 2014 and 2021. Production The album was recorded in 1987 at Off Beat Studios in Leeds, United Kingdom. It was produced by Ian MacKaye who was active in the hardcore punk scene; as a musician and co-owner of Dischord Records. Rollins was a childhood friend of MacKaye and had worked as a roadie for MacKaye's band The Teen Idles. Release ''Life Time'' was originally released in 1987 and included four live tracks recorded in Kortrijk, Belgium in October 1987. ''Is the Actor Happy?'' is an album by the American folk rock musician Vic Chesnutt, released in 1995. The title of the album's first track was used as the subtitle to a 1996 benefit album, '' Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation'', recorded to raise funds for Chesnutt's health care. Chesnutt supported the album by touring with Friends of Dean Martinez. The album was reissued by New West Records in 2004. Production The album was produced by John Keane. Michael Stipe contributed vocals to "Guilty by Association". Chesnutt wrote the songs while opening for Live on a 1994 tour. James Victor Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter from Athens, Georgia. His first album, ''Little'', was released in 1990. His commercial breakthrough came in 1996 with the release of '' Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation'', a charity record of alternative artists covering his songs. Chesnutt released 17 albums during his career, including two produced by Michael Stipe, and a 1996 release on Capitol Records, ''About to Choke''. His musical style has been described by Bryan Carroll of AllMusic as a "skewed, refracted version of Americana that is haunting, funny, poignant, and occasionally mystical, usually all at once". ''Little'' is the debut album by Vic Chesnutt, released in 1990. Produced by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, it was Chesnutt's first solo release. The album was re-released on July 5, 2004, on the New West Records label and included five bonus tracks. Overview Deciding to pursue a solo career after the band, La-Di-Das, broke up, Chesnutt would play solo at the 40 Watt Club. It was there that R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe first spotted Chesnutt and helped him to produce his first album. ''Little'' was recorded in one day: October 6, 1988, and the session was produced by Michael Stipe at John Keane's studio in Athens, Georgia. It was released on Texas Hotel Records in 1990. Edema, also spelled oedema, and also known as fluid retention, dropsy, hydropsy and swelling, is the build-up of fluid in the body's tissue. Most commonly, the legs or arms are affected. Symptoms may include skin which feels tight, the area may feel heavy, and joint stiffness. Other symptoms depend on the underlying cause. Hetch Hetchy is a valley, a reservoir, and a water system in California in the United States. The glacial Hetch Hetchy Valley lies in the northwestern part of Yosemite National Park and is drained by the Tuolumne River. For thousands of years before the arrival of settlers from the United States in the 1850s, the valley was inhabited by Native Americans who practiced subsistence hunting-gathering. ''Hard Volume'' is the second studio album by American rock band Rollins Band, released in 1989. It was reissued with previously unreleased tracks in 1999 through Buddah Records. The original CD release contained a 32-minute jam on the Velvet Underground outtake "Move Right In," titled "Joy Riding with Frank." The track was recorded live in Linz, Austria, during the band's 1988 tour. The 1999 remastered edition replaced this track with six studio tracks: three from the album session at Echo Sound in Los Angeles on December 1988, and three from a demo session recorded in July 1988 at Graphic Studios in New Jersey.
