Texas City Texans
The Texas City Texans was the primary moniker of the minor league baseball teams based in Texas City, Texas from 1951 to 1956 and 1977. Texas City teams played as members of the Gulf Coast League from 1951 to 1953, Evangeline League in 1954, Big State League in 1955 and 1956 and the Lone Star League in 1977. Texas City won the 1953 league championship and hosted all minor league home games at Texan Park. Texas City was a minor league affiliate of both the Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals in 1956. The Port Arthur Sea Hawks were a Gulf Coast League (1950–1953), Evangeline League (1940–1942, 1954) and Big State League (1955–1956) baseball team based in Port Arthur, Texas, United States. In 1953, they were affiliated with the Dallas Eagles, and in 1954 they were affiliated with the Tyler Tigers. The Sea Hawks played in Seahawk stadium, a new baseball field that was built in 1950 that could seat up to 4,800 fans. The stadium was built in the hopes that professional baseball teams would continue playing in Port Arthur, but the stadium was only used for 8 years before it was torn down. The Lubbock Hubbers were a minor league baseball team based in Lubbock, Texas, USA that existed on-and-off from 1922 to 1956. They played in the West Texas League (1922, 1928), Panhandle-Pecos Valley League (1923), West Texas–New Mexico League (1938–1942, 1946–1955) and Big State League (1947–1957), Big State League (1956). The Beaumont Exporters was the predominant name of a minor league baseball team located in Beaumont, Texas that played between 1920 and 1957 in the Texas League and the Big State League. Beaumont rejoined the Class AA Texas League (1983-1986) and evolved into today's Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The Austin Pioneers were a minor league baseball team based in Austin, Texas from 1947 to 1955. The Pioneers were founding members of the Class B level Big State League, qualifying for the playoffs in five seasons and hosting home games at Disch Field. The Pioneers were preceded by the 1915 Austin Representatives and succeeded by the 1956 Austin Senators. History Preceded in Austin by the Austin Senators, the Austin Pioneers were founded, owned and operated by Edmund P. Knebel, a local bottler of 7-Up and Nu-Grape soft drinks. Tyler Tigers
The Tyler Tigers were a Big State League baseball team based in Tyler, Texas, USA that played from 1954 to 1955 as members of the Big State League. They were managed by future major league manager Salty Parker in their inaugural season, reaching the playoffs only to lose in the first round. Other highlights from the 1954 season include a perfect game tossed by pitcher Gale Pringle against the Temple Eagles. They did not complete the 1955 season, as they dropped out of the League – the second squad to do so that season, following the Galveston White Caps. They played their final game of the season on June 29. Team owner J. C. Waco Pirates
The Waco Pirates were a minor league baseball team based in Waco, Texas who played in the Big State League from 1947–1956. They were an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise. The team actually began as the Waco Dons in 1947 but changed their name when they became a Pirates affiliate. The team briefly moved to Longview, Texas on May 22, 1953 as a result of damage caused by the 1953 Waco tornado outbreak. The team finished out the season as the Longview Pirates before returning to Waco the following season.
