Tex Rickards
Thomas Charles Rickards (19 February 1915 — 1980), commonly known as Tex Rickards, was an English professional footballer who played as an outside forward. Early life Rickards was born in Giltbrook, Nottinghamshire. Career Rickards began his career with Notts County, making over 100 appearances in all competitions for the club. Giltbrook
Giltbrook is a village in England situated approximately northwest of Nottingham and within close reach of junction 26 of the M1 motorway. It is part of Greasley (Giltbrook and Newthorpe) ward, which had a population of 6,076 in 2001, increasing to 6,233 at the 2011 Census. The name Giltbrook is believed to come from the old English name "Gylden Broc", which means golden stream, or brook. This relates to the brook that runs from the fields to the north of IKEA, and then continues under Nottingham Road at Giltbrook, and under the IKEA entrance, finally flowing into the River Erewash. Notable events include Giltbrook being the end point of the Pentrich rising where a small force of soldiers: twenty men of the 15th Regiment of Light Dragoons ended the rising. Midland Football League (1889)
The Midland Football League was a semi-professional football league in England. It acted as a feeder league to the Football League for many years before merging with the Yorkshire League in 1982 to form the Northern Counties East League. History Founded in 1889, only one year after the Football League, the Midland League was the second league for professional clubs to be formed. Eleven clubs participated in the first season, 1889–90, four of whom (including the first champions, Lincoln City) would go on to achieve Football League status. The eleven founder members came from six counties. In the early days of the Midland League, a number of the champion clubs were elected to the Football League, and in return, League clubs who failed to be re-elected were often placed in the Midland League. Ninian Park
Ninian Park was a football stadium in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales, that was the home of Cardiff City F.C. for 99 years. Opened in 1910 with a single wooden stand, it underwent numerous renovations during its lifespan and hosted fixtures with over 60,000 spectators in attendance. At the time of its closure in 2009, it had a capacity of 21,508. Cardiff City had originally been playing home fixtures at Sophia Gardens but the lack of facilities at the ground had prevented them from joining the Southern Football League. To combat this, club founder Bartley Wilson secured a plot of land from Cardiff Corporation that had previously been used as a rubbish tip and construction of a new ground began in 1909. The stadium was completed a year later and named Ninian Park after Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Ninian Crichton-Stuart, who had acted as a financial guarantor for the build. Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. It is the largest part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority district (which covers a larger area than Peterborough itself). It was part of Northamptonshire until 1974, when county boundary change meant the city became part of Cambridgeshire instead. Reg Pugh
Reginald Pugh (12 July 1914 – 21 October 1981) was a Welsh professional footballer. Career Born in Aberaman, near Aberdare, Mid Glamorgan in July 1914, Pugh began his career at his hometown club Aberaman Athletic before joining Cardiff City shortly after. He made his debut in October 1934 in a 3–1 win over Watford, becoming one of the club's youngest ever debutants at the age of 17. The following season, he was ever present in a side that struggled to avoid relegation. Following the outbreak of World War II, he played several times for the club in wartime fixtures before serving in Burma with the South Wales Borderers.
