Terence Walter "Terry" Rogers (born 26 November 1958) is a former Australian politician. Born in Ipswich, he was a Chartered Accountant and bank officer before entering politics. A member of the Liberal Party, he was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly at the 2005 Redcliffe state by-election, following the resignation of Labor's Ray Hollis. Electoral District Of Redcliffe
Redcliffe is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral division in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The division encompasses suburbs to the north and northeast of Brisbane, including Redcliffe, Woody Point, Scarborough, Clontarf and Margate, as well as parts of Kippa-Ring. The electorate's boundary stretches to take in Moreton Island. The seat was created in 1960 and was first held by Liberal (later National) member Jim Houghton. The seat was contested between the Liberal and National Parties until Houghton's mid-term retirement in 1979, followed by a by-election won by Liberal Terry White. White became the Liberal Party leader in August 1983, causing a split in the National-dominated coalition government. In 1989, he lost the seat to Labor Party member Ray Hollis, who at one point was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a public research university located in the urban coastal city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. QUT is located on two campuses in the Brisbane area viz. Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. Clontarf Beach State High School
Clontarf Beach State High School (CBSHS), opened 1964, is a co-educational, public high school based in Clontarf in Queensland, Australia. Clontarf State Primary School is located not far from it. The current principal is Jo House. The school's enrolment in 2008 was approximately 1148. In December 2008 the number was 1240. In 2008 Clontarf High was in the news for being in the most disrepair, however since then money has been spent making the school even safer for students and up grading the classrooms. Recently the school has built new tennis and futsal courts on the school oval and converted the old tennis courts into a one-of-a-kind Marine Science EcoCentre. 2005 Redcliffe State By-election
A by-election was held for the Legislative Assembly of Queensland district of Redcliffe on 20 August 2005. It was triggered by the resignation of sitting Labor member and Speaker Ray Hollis. The by-election was held to coincide with the Chatsworth by-election on the same day. Both contests resulted in the Labor Party losing the seat to the rival Liberal Party. Terry Rogers was elected as the new member for Redcliffe. Background Ray Hollis first entered parliament at the 1989 state election and held the seat of Redcliffe at every election thereafter. When Labor came to power at the 1998 state election, Hollis was appointed Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. On 21 July 2005, Hollis announced his retirement from politics, citing ill health. Ray Hollis
Raymond Keith "Ray" Hollis (born 30 January 1940) is a former Australian politician (unrelated to another Australian politician, Colin Hollis). Born in London, he migrated to Australia in 1962 as a merchant seaman and worked in a variety of occupations, including a railway worker, cook, paper mill operator, insurance salesman and a position with the Victorian Corrective Services. He later owned a transport and distribution business. As a member of the Australian Democrats, Hollis contested the 1983 and 1984 federal elections. In 1986, he joined the ALP. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in 1989 as the Labor member for Redcliffe. On 28 July 1998 he became Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
