Terry (film)
''Terry'' is a biopic of Canadian amputee athlete Terry Fox, dramatizing his national Marathon of Hope run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. The film, produced by Shaftesbury Films, aired as a television movie on CTV in 2005. It was written by Dennis Foon and directed by Don McBrearty, and was created in part because the earlier 1983 film ''The Terry Fox Story'' had been criticized by Fox's family for inaccurately depicting his personality. Shawn Ashmore portrays Fox. Unlike Eric Fryer, who previously portrayed Fox in ''The Terry Fox Story'', Ashmore is not an amputee. For some scenes, a real amputee body double was used, while in others, digital editing was used to superimpose a prosthesis over Ashmore's real leg. The film's cast also includes Matt Gordon as Fox's publicist Bill Vigars, Catherine Disher and David Huband as Fox's parents Betty and Rolly, and Noah Reid as his brother Darrell. Don McBrearty is a Canadians, Canadian film director. Career In 2003 McBrearty directed the made for television drama film ''Sex and the Single Mom''. It tells the story of Jess Gradwell (Gail O'Grady), a single and overly concerned mother of a 15-year-old girl, Sara (Danielle Panabaker). She becomes even more over protective when Sara tells her about thinking of having sex with her new boyfriend. The things between Sara and Jess start to change when Jess begins an affair with a newly single doctor. He directed the sequel to ''Sex and the Single Mom'', entitled ''More Sex and the Single Mom'', released in 2005 with O'Grady reprising her role as Jess. The film focuses on Jess's life as a mother of a teenage daughter and a three-year-old son, as well as her increasingly complicated love and sex life. Terrance Stanley Fox (July 28, 1958 June 28, 1981) was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, he embarked on an east-to-west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and , and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy. The annual Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to involve millions of participants in over 60 countries and is now the world's largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research; over C$850 million has been raised in his name as of September 2022. Betty Fox
Betty Lou Fox (née Wark; November 15, 1937 – June 17, 2011) was a Canadian cancer research activist, the mother of Terry Fox and founder of the Terry Fox Foundation. She was the most prominent figure in Terry Fox's legacy. Biography Fox was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, on November 15, 1937. She was raised in Melita, Manitoba, and in her teens moved to Winnipeg, where she met her husband Rolland "Rolly" Fox, who was working for the Canadian National Railway. They married in 1956. Stanley Allison Rogers (November 29, 1949 – June 2, 1983) was a Canadian folk musician and songwriter.
