Terri Collins
Terri Doyle Collins (born May 6, 1958) is an American politician. She is a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from the 8th District, serving since 2010. Collins has sponsored 469 bills as of March 1, 2017. She is a Republican. She was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She met her husband Tom while in college at the University of Alabama and moved to Decatur in 1982 to raise three children. She served as the vice president of marketing and sales of First American Bank for 16 years before election to the legislature in 2010. Tom died in early 2020. Early in her legislative career she proposed a bill that would have prohibited making beer or wine at home. She chairs the Education Policy Committee and serves on the Education Ways and Means Committee. Human Life Protection Act
The Human Life Protection Act, also known as House Bill 314 (HB 314) and the Alabama abortion ban, is an Alabama statute enacted on May 15, 2019, that imposes a near-total ban on abortion in the state. Set to go into effect in November 2019, a legal challenge against the bill delayed implementation until 2022. The bill was passed in both chambers of the Alabama Legislature in a party-line vote and signed by Republican governor Kay Ivey. Kay Ivey
Kay Ellen Ivey (born October 15, 1944) is an American politician serving as the 54th and incumbent governor of Alabama since 2017. Originally a conservative Southern Democrat, Ivey became a member of the Republican Party in 2002. She was the 38th Alabama state treasurer from 2003 to 2011 and the 30th lieutenant governor of Alabama from 2011 to 2017. Ivey became Alabama's second female governor and the first female Republican governor upon the resignation of her predecessor, Robert J. Bentley.
