Terrell James
Terrell James (born 1955) is an American artist who makes abstract paintings, prints and sculptures. She is best known for large scale work with paint on stretched fabric, and for parallel small scale explorations such as the ''Field Studies'' series, ongoing since 1997. She lives and works in Houston, Texas. Early life and education Terrell James was born in Houston, Texas in 1955. A seventh generation Texan, she graduated from Houston's Lamar High School (Houston), Lamar High School in 1973. In 1973, James studied painting and printmaking at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende (Guanajuato, Mexico). During 1973–77 she attended The Sewanee: The University of the South, University of the South in Sewanee Tennessee, where she continued her studies in painting and printmaking. The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) is an art museum in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA. The museum spans 5,000 years of global culture. The museum is housed in the historic former Lone Star Brewery (1886) on the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River Walk. Following a $7.2 million renovation, it opened to the public in March 1981. History In 1926, the San Antonio Museum Association founded the Witte Memorial Museum with the intentions of collecting various works of art and natural history objects. The Instituto Allende is a visual arts school in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The institute provides a range of courses, and offers a BA in Visual Arts and an MA in Fine arts in association with the Universidad de Guanajuato. Its courses and degrees are recognized by most North American universities. It has been popular with American and Canadian students and artists since it opened in 1950, and the town now has a large expatriate community from the USA and Canada.
