Grembergen
Grembergen (French: ''Grembergen-lez-Termonde'') is a town in the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in the province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is often confused with the municipality of Grimbergen in the province of Flemish Brabant. Overview Grembergen was first mentioned in 1019 as Grendberga. During the 13th and 14th century, the village was reasonably prosperous as a centre of lace production. The village was flooded several times. The old church was destroyed in 1706 by French troops. In 1709, the Saint Margaretha church was built partially from scavenged material of the old church. The Arrondissement of Dendermonde (; ) is one of the six administrative arrondissements in the Province of East Flanders, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. However, the Judicial Arrondissement of Dendermonde also comprises the municipalities of the Arrondissements of Aalst (except the municipalities of Geraardsbergen, Herzele, Sint-Lievens-Houtem and Zottegem) and Sint-Niklaas. Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde (french: Saint-Gilles-lez-Termonde) is a part of the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in East Flanders in Belgium, a typical agricultural village in the Dendervallei near the junction of the railroads to Ghent, Mechelen and Brussels. It was formerly known as Zwijveke. Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde is birthplace to poet Emmanuel Hiel (1834 - 1894) and literature historian Wies Moens (1898 - 1982).
