Termagant (horse)
Termagant (foaled 28 January 2007) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. As a two-year-old she was one of the best fillies of her generation in Ireland, winning both of her races including the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. She failed to win again and ran only four more times over the next two years before being retired from racing. Background Termagant is a bay mare with a narrow white blaze and two white sock bred in County Cork, Ireland by Denis O'Flynn's Old Carhue Stud. As a yearling the filly was consigned to the Goffs sale and was bought for €34,000 by Frank Barry on behalf of the veteran trainer Kevin Prendergast. She initially raced in the colours of Prendergast's wife before being transferred to the ownership of Joerg Vasicek. She was ridden in all of her races by Declan McDonogh. Powerscourt (horse)
Powerscourt (1 April 2000 – 17 July 2021) was a British-bred Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire, best known for his two runs in the Arlington Million: he was disqualified after finishing first in 2004 but returned to win the race in the following year. He raced in Ireland, Britain, Germany, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates in four seasons of racing, winning five of his twenty-one starts. His other major wins came in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at three and the Tattersalls Gold Cup at four. In addition to his wins he was placed in several major races including the Racing Post Trophy, Irish St. Leger, Prince of Wales's Stakes, Bayerisches Zuchtrennen, Irish Champion Stakes and Breeders' Cup Turf. Vanlandingham
Vanlandingham (foaled April 28, 1981, in Kentucky) was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Owned by Arkansas businessman John Ed Anthony, Vanlandingham was bred and raced by the Loblolly Stable. He was conditioned for racing by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey, who told ''Sports Illustrated'' in an October 14, 1985, article that the colt suffered from tender feet that stung him. Racing career 1984: three-year-old season Racing at age three, Vanlandingham broke the Oaklawn Park track record in winning the March 1984 Rebel Handicap. Sent to the Kentucky Derby, the colt fractured a pastern in his right foreleg during the race and finished sixteenth. Jim Bolger (racehorse Trainer)
James S. Bolger (born 25 December 1941) is a thoroughbred racehorse trainer and breeder based in Coolcullen in County Kilkenny. For many years, he has been recognised as one of the racing greats in Ireland. Aidan O'Brien, Tony McCoy and Paul Carberry were all apprenticed to him before gaining professional recognition in their own right. During the 2006 flat season, Bolger trained Teofilo to go unbeaten at the age of two. This five-race unbeaten streak included victories in the Group 1 National Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes. Talk of an English Triple Crown bid was imminent, but Teofilo suffered a career-ending injury in the lead up to the 2,000 Guineas and never saw a racecourse again. Bolger was criticized for his handling of this situation. 2007 saw another Bolger-bred star emerge in the shape of New Approach. The Sweet Solera Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run on the July Course at Newmarket over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. The event is named after Sweet Solera, the winner of the 1000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks in 1961. For a period it was classed at Listed level, and it was promoted to Group 3 status in 2004. Lillie Langtry (foaled 27 February 2007) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. Bred at a small stud in County Cork she was sold as a yearling and raced for the Coolmore organisation. As a two-year-old, she was one of the best juvenile fillies in Ireland winning three of her seven races including the Fillies' Sprint Stakes, Debutante Stakes and Tattersalls Timeform Fillies' 800 as well as finishing third in both the Albany Stakes and the Moyglare Stud Stakes. She was injured when finishing unplaced in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. In 2010 she recorded her biggest wins when achieving Group One victories in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. The Curragh Racecourse -- usually referred to as simply the Curragh -- is one of Ireland's most important Thoroughbred racecourses. It is situated on the Curragh plain in County Kildare, between the towns of Newbridge and Kildare. History The name "Curragh" comes from the Irish language word ''Cuirreach'', meaning "place of the running horse". The first recorded race on the plain took place in 1727, but it was used for races before then. Odds provide a measure of the likelihood of a particular outcome. They are calculated as the ratio of the number of events that produce that outcome to the number that do not. Odds are commonly used in gambling and statistics. Leopardstown Racecourse
Leopardstown Racecourse is an Ireland, Irish horse-racing venue, located in Leopardstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, 8 km south of the Dublin city centre. Like the majority of Irish courses, it hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing. The course, built by Captain George Quin and modelled on Sandown Park Racecourse in England, was completed in 1888 and acquired by the Horse Racing Ireland, Horse Racing Board of Ireland in 1967.
