Terje Vigen
''Terje Vigen'' is a poem written by Henrik Ibsen, published in 1862. Much of the story and setting is from the area around the town of Grimstad in southern Norway where Ibsen lived for a few years in his youth. It describes the dramatic saga of Terje who, in 1809, tried to run the British blockade of Norway's southern coast in a small rowboat in a desperate attempt to smuggle food from Denmark back to his starving wife and daughter. He was captured and imprisoned on a British prison hulk and released in 1814 after the Napoleonic Wars were over, only to find that his family had died. He became a pilot, and years later rescued an English lord who turned out to be the commander of the ship that had captured him. ''A Man There Was'' ( sv, Terje Vigen) is a 1917 Swedish drama directed by Victor Sjöström, based on a poem of the same title by Henrik Ibsen. With a budget of SEK 60,000, it was the most expensive Swedish film made up to that point, marking a new direction in Swedish cinema with more funding to fewer films, resulting in more total quality. This film is considered to be the start of the golden age of Swedish silent film that would end after '' Gösta Berlings saga'' in 1925, although films such as '' Ingeborg Holm'' (1913) are often assigned to this era as well. Plot Terje Vigen lives happily with his wife and little girl on a small island in Norway. In 1809 during the Napoleonic Wars, the town is starving due to the British blockade. Kjell-Ole Haune (born 1976 in Norway) is a composer and producer. He is best known for composing and producing ''Terje Vigen-The Musical'', which is based on a poem by Henrik Ibsen, and the musical ''TONIGHT'', for which he wrote the story, lyrics and music. He is the first Norwegian composer to have two of his own musicals produced in London's West End. He has also produced the book ''Terje Vigen'', which is the first publication of this poem by Henrik Ibsen in English and German, (Published by Fagbokforlaget). Torstein Blixfjord is a Norwegian artist who works with film, performance, poetry and photography. He began directing theatre in 1990 with a series of adaptations of plays by Strindberg and Ibsen, to whose work Blixfjord has often returned. Jon Mostad (born 21 April 1942) is a composer from Fredrikstad, Norway. He received the Norwegian state three-year scholarship for artists from 1982 until 1984. Musical style In his early compositions Mostad is moving from a linear-expressionist style to a more timbre-oriented line of thinking where both modernist and romantic music are inspiring his work. From around 1975 the timbre/harmonic aspect of his music becomes more related to the harmonic series. During the 1980s and 1990s he combines this with other types of modal and free compositional techniques, sometimes utilising modal techniques as well as more overtone-oriented harmonic spectra within the same composition. Guttorm Guttormsen (born 28 June 1950) is a Norwegian Jazz musician ( flute, clarinet, alto saxophone), arranger and composer. Career Guttormsen was born in Mo i Rana.
