The TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS) is a higher education institute in New Delhi, India which specializes in the field of sustainable development. It was established in 1998 by The Energy and Resources Institute, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute). In 1999, the TERI School of Advanced Studies was granted the 'Deemed to be University' status by the Indian University Grants Commission (India), University Grants Commission (UGC). The School started functioning from its campus, located in Vasant Kunj, Vasant-Kunj, New Delhi in 2008 and offers Masters and PhD programs. It has started work on developing a new campus at Hyderabad, Telangana in southern India. Gopal Krishna Sarangi is an Indian economist specializing in energy economics, climate change, energy regulations, energy access, etc. He is at present an Assistant Professor at Department of Policy Studies, Teri University. Education His doctoral thesis at Teri University was entitled, "Electricity sector regulation and sustainable development outcomes: An analysis of regulatory impact in 12 Indian states for 2001–2010." under the supervision of Professor Arabinda Mishra. The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is a research institute in New Delhi that specializes in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development. Established in 1974, it was formerly known as the Tata Energy Research Institute. As the scope of its activities widened, it was renamed The Energy and Resources Institute in 2003. History The origins of TERI lie in Mithapur, a remote town in Gujarat, where a TATA engineer, Darbari Seth, was concerned about the enormous quantities of energy his factory spent on desalination. He proposed the idea of a research institute to tackle the depletion of natural resources and energy scarcity. J. R. D. Tata, chairman of the TATA Group, liked the idea and accepted the proposal.
