Teresinha Soares
Teresinha Soares (born 1927) is a Brazilian pop art artist who currently lives and works in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She produced art during the 1960s and 1970s and was best known for her erotic artwork that explored femininity and pushed back against Brazil's oppressive government. Biography Teresinha Soares was born in 1927 in Araxá, in the state of Minas Gerais. Soares is still alive today and lives and works in Belo Horizonte. She first began writing and acting before she pursued art as a full-time career, but she still continues to enjoy these activities. Soares was producing art while Brazil was under military rule. She fought back against Brazil's dictatorship by making art that was more political and challenged the government's conservatism and strict censorship rules. Anna Maria Maiolino
Anna Maria Maiolino (born May 20, 1942) is a Brazilian contemporary artist. Early life Maiolino was born in Scalea, in Calabria in southern Italy, to an Italian father and Ecuadorian mother. In 1954, her family emigrated to Venezuela, where she later attended Escola Nacional Cristobal Rojas in 1958. In 1960, she and her family moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Here, she attended painting and woodcut courses at Escola Nacional de Belas Artes where she met artists Antonio Dias and Rubens Gerchman, with whom she would later participate in the early Brazilian art movements. Eduardo Gonçalves de Andrade (born 25 January 1947), generally known as Tostão, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a forward or attacking midfielder. Tostão was an intelligent, hardworking and prolific left-footed forward, who was known for his creativity and technical skills, and was considered one of the best players in the world in his prime. He played most of his 11-year career with Cruzeiro. Tostão represented Brazil in two World Cups, winning the tournament in 1970. He formed a lethal offensive partnership with Pelé in the national team. Dorival Knippel (September 28, 1917 – February 15, 1990), nicknamed Yustrich, was a Brazilian goalkeeper of the 1930s and 1940s. His nickname was a reference to fellow goalkeeper Juan Elías Yustrich, then of Boca Juniors, who he was said to resemble. Rubens Gerchman
Rubens Gerchman (January 10, 1942 in Rio de Janeiro – January 29, 2008) was a Brazilian painter and sculptor. He was heavily influenced by concrete and neoconcrete art. Many of Gerchman's works are paintings based on populist themes and his political beliefs, which followed those of neoconcrete artists. His sculptures with letters, stem from concrete poetry. Career Gerchman studied at the Rio de Janeiro School of Fine Arts. In the 1960s, his work focused on mass culture. He used faces clipped from news photos, but unlike Andy Warhol, who used infamous celebrity, he used images of anonymous individuals. These faces would be reproduced as multiple painted images in a comic-strip style. In the late 1960s, Gerchman devoted his interest to urban isolation and alienation. Ivan Ferreira Serpa (April 6, 1923–April 6, 1973) was a Brazilian painter, draftsman, printmaker, designer, and educator active in the concrete art movement. Much of his work was in geometric abstractionism. He founded Grupo Frente, which included fellow artists Lygia Clark, Helio Oiticica, and Franz Weissmann, among others, and was known for mentoring many artists in Brazil.
