Teresa D'Entença
Teresa d'Entença (c. 1300 – 20 October 1327) was the eldest daughter of Gombau d'Entença and his wife Constança d'Antillón. She was Countess of Urgell in her own right; however, control over her estate passed to her husband, Alfonso IV of Aragon. Biography Before dying childless at La Llitera, Teresa's granduncle Ermengol X of Urgell agreed to make Alfonso heir to the County of Urgell, on the condition that Alfonso marry Teresa, who was his rightful heir. Alfonso agreed to this and he married Teresa in 1314 in the Cathedral of Lerida. Alfonso is reputed to have been so liberal in the expenses during the wedding, that the local counsels imposed restrictions on how much he could spend. Teresa died whilst giving birth to her son Sancho on 20 October 1327 at Zaragoza, only days before her husband became king of Aragon. The House of Entença was an ancient and noble dynasty of the Crown of Aragon. History The Entença noble family originated in the town of Entença, town, Entença in La Franja, presently in Aragon, around the 11th century. Later, in the 13th century the Barony of Entença was established in the Priorat and Ribera d'Ebre areas that had been conquered to the saracens and needed repopulation. Further south, the Barons of Entença shared the lordship over Tortosa in Baix Ebre. By 1313 William II of Entença was deeply in debt and decided to donate the Barony of Entença to king James II of Aragon. King James II waited until William's death to take possession of the Feudal barony, Barony. Bernat Guillem d'Entença, also known as Bernat Guillem II d'Entença (Spanish:''Bernardo Guillermo de Entenza''. ?, 1226 - ?, 1300), was a noble of the Catalan House of Entença, son of Bernat Guillem de Montpeller. Biography Bernat Guillem d’Entença was born in 1226. Bernat was a member of the House of Entença. He was the son of Bernat Guillem de Montpeller, also known as Bernat Guillem I d'Entença, and Jusiana d'Entença who were the respective uncle and aunt of James I the Conqueror. His father, Bernat Guillem de Montpeller, participated in the Conquest of Majorca and Valencia during the Reconquista, and died after the Battle of the Puig in 1238. The House of Cabrera was an important Catalan dynasty. It began to rule in the Viscounty of Girona, which would be called Viscounty of Cabrera, as well as the Viscounty of Àger, the Sicilian County of Modica and the County of Urgell. Origin The dynasty has its origins in the Castle of Cabrera ''(Castell de Cabrera)'' at L'Esquirol, a village included now in the municipality of Santa Maria de Corcó, in the natural comarca known as Cabrerès, Osona. Ermengol VII, Count Of Urgell
Ermengol VII (or Armengol VII) (died 1184) was the Count of Urgell from 1154 to his death. He was called ''el de Valencia''. The son of Ermengol VI and his first wife, Arsenda of Cabrera, in 1157, Ermengol VII married Dulce, daughter of Roger III of Foix and Jimena de Osona, who acted as his regent during his absences in Castile. Without any possibility of expansion into surrounding territory, Ermengol was attracted to the Castilian possessions that he inherited from his grandmother. Thus, a major part of his reign was spent in the vassalage of Ferdinand II of León, to whom he was majordomo and tenant of many castles in Extremadura. Around 1166, he founded the canons of Bellpuig de les Avellanes.
