Terepaima National Park
The Terepaima National Park ( es, Parque nacional Terepaima) Is a protected area with the status of national park in the South American country of Venezuela located in the mountainous region of the Lara (state), Lara and Portuguesa State, Portuguesa States. Specifically southeast of the city of Barquisimeto, capital of the Lara State, it covers areas belonging to the municipalities Iribarren, Palavecino and Simón Planas. It was decreed National Park on April 14, 1976 with the purpose of protecting the flora and fauna of the region. It has an area of 18,971 hectares. Its temperature varies between 19 and 26 degrees Celsius. Its vegetation in the highest parts is of cloud forest with the presence of trees such as mountaineers, salvio and mountain manzanita, as well as several species of ferns. Lara (state)
Lara State ( es, Estado Lara, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela. The state capital is Barquisimeto. Lara State covers a total surface area of and, in 2015, had a census population of 2,019,211. Toponymy The state is named after a notable hero of Venezuela's independence, General Jacinto Lara. History During the colony and a large part of the independence period, the current territory of Lara belonged to the province of Caracas. In 1824 it was absorbed by the Province of Carabobo, created that year. Barquisimeto
Barquisimeto (; guc, Watkisimeeta) is a city in Venezuela. It is the capital of the state of Lara and head of Iribarren Municipality. It is an important urban, industrial, commercial and transportation center of the country, recognized as the fourth-largest city by population and area in Venezuela after Caracas, Maracaibo and Valencia. History Barquisimeto was founded in 1552 by Juan de Villegas, as a headquarters and to have better control of the territory believed to be rich in gold. Its original name was Nueva Segovia de Barquisimeto and then it was shortened to just Barquisimeto. This city had four settlements due to ignorance of the physical environment of the region. Mochima National Park
Mochima National Park ( ) is located in the States of Anzoátegui and Sucre (state), on the northeastern coast of Venezuela. The park covers 94,935 hectares and is made up of an exclusively marine area in its western sector (Anzoátegui State), a coastal marine area that includes the Gulf of Santa Fé and Mochima Bay, and a mountainous area that covers the Turimiquire Dam watershed (Sucre State). Mochima Park was created to protect the montane forests of the Turimiquire Range and the country's eastern Caribbean Sea marine landscapes. However, this is one of the most threatened parks in Venezuela. Recently two large construction projects have altered the park permanently. A new national highway is being constructed between Puerto La Cruz and Cumana running directly through the park deforesting a 70+ meter wide swath of parkland along its entire course.
