Terence M. Zaleski
Terence M. Zaleski (born 1953) is an American politician from New York who was the 39th Mayor of Yonkers, New York. He took office on January 1, 1992, after serving the previous five years in the New York State Assembly. Early life and education Zaleski graduated from Columbia Law School with a J.D. degree. He worked as a high school chemistry teacher. Career He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1987 to 1991, sitting in the 187th, 188th and 189th New York State Legislatures. During his time in the Assembly, he chaired a committee on the use of DNA tests in court cases. In the 1988 election, he was re-elected with 56% of the vote. He was mayor of Yonkers from 1992 to 1995. John Spencer (mayor)
John Spencer (born November 17, 1946) is an American politician and former mayor of Yonkers, New York (1996–2003). He was the 2006 Republican nominee for U.S. Senator from New York and lost to the former first lady and 2016 presidential candidate Democrat Hillary Clinton. Early life, military service and education Spencer was born in Yonkers, New York, the son of Edward and Ann McGlinchy Spencer. He was adopted and raised by Patrick and Nora Ginnane, who had eight children of their own. His adoptive mother died when he was eight, his adoptive father six years later. His sister Noreen Ginnane raised him. He attended high school at Sacred Heart High School and after two years at Westchester Community College, he dropped out to join the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned an officer's commission as an infantry lieutenant and served a tour in Vietnam during 1968 through 1969. He holds the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star. Early career ... ''Show Me a Hero'' is a 2015 American miniseries based on the 1999 nonfiction book of the same name by former ''New York Times'' writer Lisa Belkin about Yonkers mayor Nick Wasicsko. Like the book, the miniseries details a white middle-class neighborhood's resistance to a federally mandated scattered-site public housing development in Yonkers, New York, and how the tension of the situation affected the city as a whole. The miniseries was written by David Simon and journalist William F. Zorzi, with whom Simon worked at ''The Baltimore Sun'' and on the HBO series ''The Wire''. It was directed by Paul Haggis. Six episodes were ordered by HBO; the miniseries premiered on August 16, 2015.
